Poor chap and to have it pinched while carrying out his morning routine, is going to be extra distressing for him. He's not going to feel safe leaving the other dog outside the shop now, so hopefully it won't mean he'll stop going and getting out and about?

It does sound more like a prank, so it will be worth letting all the local vets and animal shelters know, as the dog may be found wandering at some point. I hope he gets the dog back soon.

poor guy, was going to suggest that I had heard of people who help out in such situations but see they've been mention. Dogs do sometimes get stolen to sell on. One old man up here got given a lovely dog as a present, who sadly had been stolen from down south, his family hadn't known, the man had the dog for quite a while and was heartbroken when he found out and his new friend was returned to it's orignal home.

When our cat went missing I put my mobile phone number on the poster, OK he wasn't stolen but we were still really worried. I never got any calls at all but evenutally the cat reappeared looking pretty bad and having been hit by a car (we think). He's fine now but I'd not be worried about putting my mobile on there again (wouldn't do landline though) so is it possible you could use your number or that of another friend?

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

It also might be worth offering a reward and deffo use the internet. A friend of mine recently had her dog stolen. She put a notice on facebook and offered a reward. He was returned a couple of days later - she suspected it was the little scrote that stole him and had returned him for the reward because he had been unsuccessful in selling him. Yes the little get got a reward but at least they got their dog back, which, considering her kids had been hearbroken was worth it for her. Best of luck in finding him.

How about going to the local rag about it. A nice piece on the front page might help jog someones memory. Little sh*t.

That's really sad Munch, I would suggest only putting a mobile number on which maybe you or someone other than the old gent could answer to avoid him being upset by possible crank calls. Hope the poor little dog is found soon.

As well as the above try the local paper, TV/Radio stations - a story with a sad edge will get their attention and hopefully publicise that the elderly chi needs to be back home with its master.

                    Hope it all ends well.

You're being a good friend to your neighbour just when he needs it - well done.

I gather that what Shadylane mentions is quite common, in fact the 'reward' is often the motive for the theft.

I know were I'd like to put a dog lead one with a slip chain.

I must point out though about the stupid council who only a few weeks ago threaten to fine a man who put up posters about a missing pet. FOR FLY TIPPING!

I'm so, so sorry. I would be devastated if someone did that to mine. I live in a rural town and the local store has rings to tie your dog to. I've only done this a couple of times and have walked out to find friends standing by my puppy and protecting her. She is "Princess Holly". Even the police have said she is so saleable that not to leave her on her own.

Anyone who takes someones beloved pet is beneath contempt.

                                Incidentally she's chipped.
