Music recommendations for a rabid guitarist please?
May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields and,
Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
mark knopfler, brian may, curt cobain, george harrison, pete townsend,......

How about Ry Cooder, Stevie-Ray Vaughan, Chuck Berry, Eddie Van Halen, Link Wray, Dick Dale or John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival
There are soooooo many!
Scarecrow: Come along, Dorothy. You don't want any of *those* apples. Apple Tree: Are you hinting my apples aren't what they ought to be?
Scarecrow: Oh, no. It's just that she doesn't like little green worms!
George Harrison is a very, very underrated lead guitarist. Just think of his riffs- some of the most famous in history.
Mind you, George Martin said that McCartney was AT LEAST as good on lead guitar as Harrison- proven by the twin guitar solo on And Your Bird Can Sing (which he played with Harrison) and the solo in Taxman. McCartney also wrote the famous 'lick' in In My Life.
This is weird. I wrote a very long reply a few days ago, with lots of quotes in it, but before I could post it my pooter crashed horribly.Just now, when I hit "reply" it brought up the first three of the quotes from that post (Cue "Twilight Zone" theme tune)
Concerto de Aranjuez by Joaquin Rodrigo. Classical but classic if you see what I mean? Any guitarist would love it.
Thanks for those. We haven't played them for years. I really must get round to transferring the rest of my record collection on to the computer! Ponce's nice too... and Bach's Lute Suites.
I should probably have been a little more specific. I was looking for music he can put on his MP3 player and play ad infinitum in a kitchen, when he's working AFD shifts (it stands for "All ...er... Flipping(?) Day - can be 11 or 12 hours at a stretch) without driving the head chef mad(der).
Depends what you are after, but THE guitar instrumentalist (ie the tune from the guitar is the whole purpose of the thing, rather than accompanying songs) is still Hank Marvin.
Not Steve Howe? I've always thought you can't beat him for sheer variety.
All I've ever heard by Hank is Apache. I know he likes that - we'll have to see what else we can find.
...oh good grief - the men have just arrived to fix the burst water main in our garden (this is what they call "First thing Monday morning"). I may be some time...
The problem with rounded personalities is they don't tesselate.

I have here a CD titled "Hank Marvin Guitar Player"
Tune list
Dance with me
Killing me softly
Ticket to Ride
Maya's day
Lately
A Tall-A Tall dark stranger
Eleanor Rigby
Petite Fleur
Sunny Afternoon
Benny's Toon
American Pie
Midnight at the Oasis
Hotel California
Your Song
There are also literally HUNDREDS of Shadow's tunes in which Hank played the melody (I have about 10 CDs, with a fairly modest amount of tune-duplication, and only 3 songs, the rest are pure instrumental) including part of the aforementioned Rodrigo Guitar Concerto, Guitar Tango, and not forgetting Cavatina (theme from "the Deerhunter", very haunting)!
Check it out!
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
Ah, the real Fleetwood Mac, before Buckingham Nicks came along and ruined it, Green Manalishi, fantastic.
Another vote for Santana, or how about Rory Gallagher, or Gary Moore or Mark Knopfler. Surprised no-one's mentioned Clapton yet, or is that too obvious? Sorry I'm showing my age.
Now I'm embarrassed. I have Rumours and the one that came after - and even two solo albums by Stevie Nicks.
The problem with rounded personalities is they don't tesselate.
I wholeheartedley commend you on your choice. Has he tried anything by Gordon Giltrap, The Eagles,(the Joe Walsh era) Ritchie Blackmore in his Deep Purple days and of course David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. I was going to say Dave Murray of Iron Maiden but perhaps thats for week three!
Well he was brought up on The Eagles and Floyd (though I stopped short of the really extreme measures - one of his brothers went to Earl's Court (for "The Wall") while still in the womb and has never been the same since), Mark Knopfler, Brian May, Stevie-Ray Vaughan... don't think I've ever played him any Link Wray though (but that'll involve more vinyl to pooter transference *sigh*).
Oh yes ZZZ. Seasick Steve has my vote too.
Ooh, Gordon Giltrap and Peter Frampton. Two names that come with pleasant associations but I can't remember why...

If you started him on old Fleetwood Mac, try Chickenshack and John Mayall Bluesbreakers, through the 60's changed guitarists as regularly as I changed underware - well, nappies at that time, obviously.
Older Blues - Robert Johnson
More up to date - check out Nimmo Brothers and King King
