I went round the shops, tried on different styles to decide which was best and made notes of which designers I liked.

Then I went and bought a dress second hand off ebay for £100 including delivery. It's a properly posh designer dress

Otherwise, catalogues and high street shops also do wedding dresses.

And, a good seamstress will make a dress for you (and it's not as expensive as you think, especially if you just want a normal-ish dresS)

As for dresses, try googling for dress agencies in your area, and ask in charity shops too (if 2nd user is ok for you) as some of them now have a particular branch that all wedding stuff goes to. Mine came 2nd hand from ebay..gorgeous genuine wild silk with embriodery and beads, the huge sum of 60 quid.
Also online designer outlets..
