Have to say I've never seen an offensive post. I've noticed a few trolls starting threads, trying to be trying to be controversial;confrontation; and/or a complete a**. They always come across as a complete a** to me. There is banter between some Grapes who are friendly off-line which I guess you could mistake for something else but this forum is a very friendly place. There are a few nutters but they're harmless (honest)

as a long time member but not a massively high poster (compared to some) sometimes ive felt that some posts/replies are a blunt and ive occassionaly been paranoid as I seemed to go through a phase of 'killing' posts - but generally the folks on here are good hearted and want to help/give good advice. The Mods do a brill job and its the only forum ive ever kept to for any length of time, so all in all I'd say stick with it and enjoy......Last edited by Hans Mum; 17-03-2011, 12:11 PM.The love of gardening is a seed once sown never dies ...

Having written this post three times now, I have proved to myself that it can oft be difficult to express what one truly means in the written form. I'd wager that it can be read far more different ways.
People ain't always what they seem in their posts anywotsits - I'm actually very friendly and moderately intelligent in "real" life.
I will openly admit that on occasion in the past (back when I were a proper regular participatising paid up card carrying member of these here pages) I let what folks were saying get to me a bit, and picked up on what I construed as an "atmosphere" within the pages - but have since realised that it really doesn't bother me that much.
I, like many have been a member on several fora, and can honestly say that this is my favourite - and it's nothing to do with the smileys, the banners, the buttons are adverts. It's the people pressing keys that make this place what it is, and the reason that so many have joined and stayed.
If lucky, we meet all sorts of characters throughout our life - this place is no different really.

You'll soon get to know who's who and how they type...seems a lot of us had our little insecurities when we started but I really don't think there's any spiteful people on here, regardless of how posts may be read. Some of us are a little over flowery with what we want to say, others just use the minimum words they need to get their point across...I sometimes feel bad about how long my posts are
The way I look at it now is that not only do I not know the person who's possibly made me feel a little uncomfortable(therefore shouldn't assume I do),but also,on the very rare occasion I've felt a bit miffed by a post...they don't know me either, therefore,if they have taken a disliking to me it's actually only the way I type they don't like.(cos they've never met me)the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.
Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have.xx

If someone upsets you, remember this rule
"it never pays to assume malice where stupidity is a credible explanation"
or, as applied to a discussion forum - if someone upsets you, it is more likely to be a communications error than any such intention.
It's actually quite a good rule in general too, it helps you avoid escalating problems where often there was no harm meant, just carelessness.
There are so many phrases that have 'connotations', and sometimes I need a meaning of EXACTLY what one of those phrases says, not what it 'usually really means', so I say it, and only later realise how it might be taken. I say what I mean, but so many things I mean, don't mean the same to someone else!Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

Personally I have an edge, in fact I think I can be really edgey....
I've been known to have a barny, I remember one on foxes a while back, probably involved snadger the troll.!!! but well like family tiffs soon blow over, and while I frequently disappear for a while with work commitments. I'm always drawn back, because this place is fun, friendly, full of useful information, and generally really enjoyable to while away an hour or two.
I'm gonna have to say it, I love you guys.I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

Like many grapes have said, it's all down to perception. I often write one liners (usually links which I find may be helpful), not to offend but because I'm often not knowledgeable enough to go into great detail & leave that to those in the know but my one liners could be read in different ways. Can't believe I've written more than one line.......sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”
