...and the tumble dryer sort of died. You can only turn on the heating element by pressing the reset switch at the back... and only turn it off again by switching off at the mains (behind the fridge freezer). Good thing my men have long arms!

your one is worse than ours, it is really old, we are it's third owner, we hardly use it so no point replacing, you have to turn it on with a pair of pliers

It would be OK if it wasn't under a worktop. That's what makes the switch hard to reach. Rather have it there than in the garage though. I hated having to go out to get the clothes in the winter. By the time I got back to the house they'd be wet again!

That would cause an interesting scramble.

Well, if you suddenly hear a piercing siren, rush to the pooter.

                          • Still here?

There is nothing scarey about a proper gas oven which lights properly. My parents wouldn't have gas in the house, but once I got the chance of a gas cooker (aged about 32) I prefer it and I've now used gas since before the current safety-devices to prevent you leaving the gas on-but-unlit. Our presnt gas cooker has a 'sparker', but lacks the cut-offs that stop gas coming out if the sparker hasn't worked, or the flame goes out. I still like using it.
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

You misheard me Elsie. We CAN (we can do anything), we just DON'T.

And we don't have owners - we have slaves.
