  • Tall Trees

Not being funny but how would you like it if a new plot holder had planted a eucalyptas tree next to your plot !!!

totally unacceptable. Did you know that trees really don't like salty water?

Its true, some trees never manage to successfully root properly.

Its wise to nip this one in the bud, no pun intended.

I should know my neighbour has a very substantial eucalyptus, that has my garden in shade from 11.30 onwards.

Can't you have a quiet word with your Committee about it rather than take guerilla action - if the neighbour ever suspects you've done the tree damage he/she could make your life miserable.

Let the Committee take the hit, that's what they're there for.

I wouldn't like it at all but I would suggest your first option should be a friendly chat about just why! You may be gardening next to this person for many years to come and it would be a shame not to get on. If they're a total newbie to gardening, they may have no idea they've done anything 'wrong'.

As far as I'm aware and there will be far more experienced committee folk than I here, but trees have to fall into certain criteria, I wouldn't expect eucalyptus to fall into any acceptable criteria for an allotment.

                On a lottie plot? Why?

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

How stupid can someone get. The amount of water a eucalyptus tree takes out of the soil is tremendous, They are not doing their selves any favours either here.

Can't see how this could be within the rules (whatever the rules might be). Allotments are intended primarily for growing food, not ruddy-great trees!

Maybe they have a koala bear at home? Can't think of any other reason why someone would plant one on an allotment! daft. I'd take both routes

Dont even go there........We have a Eucalyptus in our garden. We did NOT plant it and should have had it taken out when we first moved in - Silly HF now attached to said tree......
It costs us £300-500 every other year to have it reduced......
                          Be warned

Maybe they were growing it for firewood. In idle moments I've often wondered about the practicality of doing this.

If I ever get a few acres to play with, I may have a go.

Its a shame not more neighbours were like you HF. Mine are clearly just tight fisted.

Did you know that cutting makes its growth more vigorous!!!
