  • How would this look?

In an art deco/ contempory diner/chill out room?

Flat Column Heated Chrome Designer Vertical Radiators on eBay (end time 21-Apr-11 09:57:07 BST)

I need a rad and thought the chrome would add to the 'Deco' theme, and the tall flat facade would give the contemporary feel?

    Or am I mad?

I ain't no designer but I can kinda picture it in my minds eye!

I think that vertical rads look brill, and take up less space than 'normal' rads, BUT a note of caution - check the BTU you want to achieve in the room against what these deliver - I seem to remember that you need a bigger size vertical rad to achieve the same BTU output than a trad longways rad. Even though surface area from an upright is the same as a trad rad, the heat emitted from a tall thin rad rises and disperses around the room differently from a longways trad rad.

Final thought - the price of 'designer' rads like this will make you want to have a serious lie down!!

We put a vertical radiator in our hall last year, everyone who comes to our home comments on how nice it is!

I like vertical radiators too! ...there are loads of styles to choose from- but yes as Hazel says- they tend to be more expensive.

Nice, but not Art Deco. Modern and sleek, though.

I don't want to rip the soul out of the house , which was built in the art deco period. I'm using chrome faced electrical sockets, I've managed to source chrome plated round switches (same as originals) and will probably add some chrome lights and wall lights. They loved chrome in the art deco period.
I don't want a recreated 1930's home but would like to keep some original features and blend the new with the old.

Often see them when doing surveys. Mostly they look pretty good.

I love them - you could always fix it on sidewards al la traditional style to make it less contemporary if it's heading away from the feel of the house

As far as I know, chromium is one of the hardest metals known to man. Thats why spanners and suchlike are chromium plated. Surely they would only rust on the outside if the chromium wasn't bonded correctly, (in which case it would be breaching the sale of goods act) or the coating had been chipped off and was exposed to water and air? More likely to rust if set in a moisture laden bathroom I would think too?

I imagine that white stove enamelled radiators would have just as much chance of rusting as chrome plated jobbies?

Has anyone actually had problems with chrome plated radiators rusting?

Anyway, if it did I would seek restitution from supplier!

Yes, our bathroom one is rusty at the joiny bits (nuts? bolts?)

Our "chrome" dustbin rusted too (although it was a cheapo thing)

I like them - looking for a similar one for our hall... or maybe a couple of vertical bars.
