I watch 2 hours a day and am very selective. Himself does nothing but watch and always sport, but for the 2 hours in the evening when I watch. I never see advertisements because he flicks to the sport. Good for you if you prefer life without one.

Good for you, I really wish I could give it up but am weaning myself off slowly lol, I used to watch all the soaps and any crap that was on really, now I am down to eastenders and glee (stop laughing!), but I have to admit I do have it on during the day when its just me and my little man for background noise but I am gonna get a radio in there soon so that should stop.

OK, I'm going to have to ask, as I keep hearing about it on the radio; what is Glee?

it's addictive, its about a american highschool glee club (a modern chior really), its a pop-drama-comedy type thing, i dunno how to explain it other than its a guilty secret type of thing that you know you shouldn't watch cos its really cheesy but you can't stop cos its compelling funny cheese

You are definitely not a freak... I work in the industry and have a colleague who doesn't watch tv. Me? I'm a tv addict!

              Thanks,Taff that's useful link.

I must say it's sometimes a conversation stopper-"Have you watched X-factor?"No,I haven't (honestly, never).I haven't watched EastEnders,Coronation Street and the other stuff.I used to be probably like most of people-whack the TV on as soon as I was back home just for the sake of noise in the background.I don't regret it.I've got much more time on my hands now than when I had a TV.My choice.

I have TV and pay my licence, however, I have a friend who lives in (extremely appalling) social housing who dumped his tv when he realised a) the reception was virtually non-existent, b) the cost of the licence was more than he wanted to pay for the time he wanted to exist in his grotty flat and c) he can watch anything he wants to in friends and families houses

I'll second that TS. I couldn't listen all day, but there are some really interesting programmes, some very funny programmes and I rarely miss the Archers

Oddly enough we have 5 TVs (despite having given away several in the last few years - I think they must be breeding, like wire coathangers) but only 2 of them are actually connected to the aerial.

We occasionally watch them because they're there but we normally do so with most of our attention on a book or the laptop and if there are any offspring around they tend to talk to us all the way through anyway.

The only thing we watch religiously is the local weather - to find out whether there's likely to be frost.

We're planning to stop paying for a licence when our area changes over to digital, since they won't be able to prosecute us if we don't have digital receiving equipment...

I have never had a TV, and never will. My mum gave me one once and I chucked it out within a month. Horrible things! I probably don't sound 25 do I!

I do watch Iplayer though, and download things to watch/buy DVD's of series that are good. I can't stand advertising (it actually makes me angry sometimes!!) and there is so much crap on TV.

I am a busy enough person without TV; I make music, and am a photographer so spend hours on the laptop editing and producing stuff.

Hae the rules changed? Last I was told (perhaps wrongly) was if you have equipment that COULD be used to watch TV, you need a licence. That includes an internet-capable computer 9I reckon this one wouldn;t count, it's far too slow!)
Maybe what I was told is wrong, or maybe it's changed recently?

It's wrong. Only equipment that actually recieves a live broadcast signal needs a licence. The rest is inference and scare tactics.
If you have an internet capable computer, you also need a TV card in it for it to receive live broadcasts and hence need a licence.

If you buy a tv a dvd player, ariel, conector or whatever from Tesco, Asda or other outlets and you dont have a club card the till will give a print out for the customer to fill in, this is so your name and address can be checked with the licensing authority as to weather you have a licence.
