free spent hops in essex

Hi all, im now working at a local brewery in Brentwood, Essex as an assistant brewer (so more brewerjim than farmerjim nowadays) and we have loads and loads of spent hops we need to get rid of.

We used to have a guy who grew Roses comercially take them but he has had to give up the work through ill health and the sacks are now piling up. They are great for clay soil and are packed full of nitrogen.

If anyone is interested then please PM me and i'll give you my number. They are free as you are doing us a service and we have between 10-12 full sacks a week. At the moment we have about 30 sacks we need shifted.

They are great for digging into the soil and mulch down in about 4 weeks. I've never had so many worms in my garden as I have now. There's no time constraint. We have about 12 sacks a week to shift but they have stacked up as we now don't have anyone to take them.

I just meant the current 30 sacks will have to go. The sacks had 25kg of barley malt in them so they are about the same size as a large sack of potatoes.

After seeing this thread I contacted the local brewery and have bagged myself four bags to pick up in the morning yay. Thanks for putting this on and I sugest anyone with a brewery in the area phones up and asks, its what I did.

I would take a decent trailer load, but can't collect for a few days. Trailer is full, and I need time to organise emptying and storing the contents. I guess you're only there during the week?

A trip to Brentwood will be worth it, its not too far away

We used to have a man come round our houses and sell us some sacks of spent hops for a nominal price.
It was great for nourishing the soil.
Wish I could get some again.
