Chilli Flavoured Chocolate

chilli flavoured chocolate hearts from T*sco, down to 39p (but don't make a special car journey....cycle, the calories burned mean you can eat more)

Sounds weird, but delicious...takes just like normal milk choc, but with a nice "afterburn". Well, not so much a burn as a gentle warmth. yum yum

No, really, I tried it about 14 months ago, but it was dark chocolate. It was 'a bit strange', pleasant, but I wouldn't go out of my normal chocolate comfort zone in its favour! Nor Lavender Chocolate.... although, having said all that, when The Piglets came to stay once, we took them to a local Craft Centre where they have the most fantastic permanent shop-stalls, and there was a girl who was selling home-made infused chocolate. We 'lost' The Piglets at one stage, and found them about half an hour later.... STILL tucking into the free samples! Now HER chilli chocolate WAS gorgeous! In fact ALL her chocolate was. Bugger, I might just have to go back there again now that I've reminded myself how good it was. Your fault Two Sheds...!

Chillie chocolates are lovely. I make my own, just melt dark choc preferably cooking and add chillie powder. You can make them as hot or not as you like.

They don't keep for very long though, but then again thats not a real problem.

I tried them with ginger and white choc, very nice and cinnamon with milk choc again very nice.

I had some bought for me for Mother's Day - was a bit suspicious ( I like chilli and I like chocolate but had never thought of them going together). Was pleasantly surprised

There's a few chocolatiers online who make/sell some really odd-sounding combinations. Have tried quite a few up to press, and most are really lovely. The best combination with chilli i've tried so far is a hot chocolate made with real chocolate flakes. Nice...

Tried some wine infused chocolate at the Good Food Show last year - now I love wine and really love chocolate and will happily eat the two together. However, in one mouthful it was definitely a no no. A bit like chocolate beer, just wrong.

Chilli chocolate however is an old one, isn't it big in S America?

I have a recipe for a cardomon (sp) chocolate torte, it's sort of like brownies - high content of everything fattening and has cardomon in it and my chums here think it's to die for. And the chocolate ganache which you pour over it has the same spice.

We have a village fete in July and the Mayor no less has asked me to make three or four or two large ones for the fete - everybody has to take something for the other people in the commune to share.

Funnily enough I make the things regularly - always have some in the freezer as a standby and as second or third dessert if I'm entertaining - but I actually dont eat it myself!

Now that's weird!

I presume that's green cardamoms Tony, not black ones. The green ones are quite sweet tasting and used a lot in Indian desserts.

I understand that the south American Indians who 'invented 'chocolate originally mixed it with chilli.
( See I paid attention at Cadbury World- even though I was surrounded by chocolate!!!)
Infact chilli and dark chocolate is a wonderful mix ( I am of the Cadbury's milk or Thorntons persuasion)

NB ....Do watch the film tonight of 'Chocolat'.....if it's as good as the original I'll invite Jonny Depp over for a cuppa!!!!
