I think as this subject of giving up smoking is so well posted on. I will copy the relevant posts and start a thread just for everyone who is interested.
Giving up smoking is so important I feel we should all help those who wish to give up as well as those who are living through the day to day process of quitting.

Still off the fags - nearly one month now - not too bad really - there are only three fags a day that I feel I miss, so hopefully this is it this time !
Thanx for asking and to all the Grapes for their encouragement !

Rat - doing wel!!! So have you thought of buying yourself a little something as a reward. Even if it's a packet of seeds, you can enjoy them later in the year. How about a packet of nicotina??

well, I'm giving up tomorrow, after umpteen attempts over the last 15 years or so. I always start off ok, then some catastrophe throws me off course and I think "oh s*d it, I'll just have one" and then 2 days later thats it, back on 15 a day. this time around I am trying to tell myself that I WILL succeed so I can taste my home grown produce better, and that being busy in the garden will help me with the cravings.

Rat's doing fine - about to graduate to Step 2 patches tomorrow - maybe these ones won't be the size of dustbin lids.
Seem to do the trick though.
FVV - If you wanna try the patches, visit your local health centre / doctors surgery and ask if they run a no smoking clinic - it's a load of tosh really but you get the patches at prescription price as opposed to £18.99 a week. After a couple of weeks, they gave me a fortnights supply each prescription so you save a heap of dosh

                    Tips for new non-smokers.
                    1. There is a difference between being a Non Smoker and telling yourself you have given up. Make sure you know which you are. Non Smokers never ever smoke or miss cigarettes.
                    2. If offered a cigarette by another person, just say "I don't smoke." never say "I've given up" or "I used to smoke" chances are once they know you used to smoke they will try to push a cigarette on you if they think you may cave in. Some smokers hate reformed smokers and can't understand how hard you are trying. Some smokers will deliberately try to get you to fail just because they tried to give up once and failed.
                    3. Don't count the days since you gave up. Why remember how you used to smoke. This is making the cigarettes out to be important and some how worthwhile remembering? All that is important is to know that you are a Non Smoker.
                    4. Never tell your self “I don’t want a cigarette”. Tell yourself, “I am a Non Smoker”.

Tried that, but OH insists that I recite "Think Wedding, Think Wedding, Think Wedding, Think Wedding, Think Wedding, Think Wedding, Think Wedding, Think Wedding, Think Wedding, Think Wedding, Think Wedding, Think Wedding, Think Wedding........"

Put "Think Greenhouse" on the present list then Rat

We had posters all over the place today for non smoking day, but non in the smoking shelter I don't think ( only smoke at home so don't know) I nearly picked up some literature for you to help you on your way.

PS are you sure she didn't mean Think Weeding instead

Tell the OH you want to get married in a glass cathedral (8'x10') and in order to do that you need to buy the kit and put it up well before the wedding so that you can grow all the flowers for her bouquet. Sweet-pea, courgette and onion would look fantastic. She could have nasturtiums trailing from her hair. Your little daughter could carry a basket full of lavender and marigolds along with other companion flowers.
She will not be able to complain because you are "Thinking Wedding".
Sounds as though you don't need to put an egg whisk on the gift list

Jax... your tips there sounded a bit Alan Carr...? Never smoked to read on giving up, but they were good tips...

Rat... we don't really need to hear what you get up to with what kitchen utensils!
