One of the things I used to remember reading was 'you don't need to smoke when you're asleep' ! (thats what they think...hah!)

Its tough going for some, and the only answer is willpower and wanting to.

I've stopped for nearly six years and I could still pick one up now - what stops me is I know I'd never only have one...I'd be back to 20-a-day. So I keep remembering I like not smoking (more than smoking) and it saves sooooo much money and I feel healthy and holier than thou too!!!

I fell off the wagon a couple of times (hence more than one new persian rug!) but in the end stuck with it - so you stick with it too, you know it makes sense.

          Nick
It ain't easy - don't let anyone tell you it is but you'll start to feel the benefit after two weeks.
I smoked average 20 a day for over 20 years but haven't had a smoke for almost 2 months now and feel so much better for it - though I have put on a few pounds !!
Hang on in there - we're rooting for you.

Cheers both, I only used to smoke at home never at work so it shouldn't be too hard My wife is trying as well (to give up smoking that is, after all, all wives are trying ) but she's trying the "I'll buy some of a differnet sort" tack and I have to say the 1 I had was bloody horrible! I thought the dog had broken wind they smelled so bad. So I just thought sod it and gave up.

I'm not so fussed about feeling healthier (I am off cause) it's the extra dosh that I'm looking forward too. I tried to explain it to my wife, if we stopped that would pay for 2 weeks hols + spending money for her every year & I could have yet another greenhouse & a new rotavator instead, it seemed to go ok til I mentioned the greenhouse

nick - when I said I still could have a fag even now, its true - but I don't mean to put you off, its only very occasionally I even think about smoking nowadays - you think less and less about it as time goes on....(& on & on & on!! ;-) )

Yep, Journey of a thousand miles etc.
I'm sure there will be time when I could murder one (usually when I'm thinking about something & trying to concentrate - luckily that doesn't happen too often ) but I'll give it my best shot & see how it goes.

Well done Nick. Just tell your wife to put her money in a jar and save it, then you do the same with a jar of your own. Sticking a photo of what you want on the jar also helps you fill it up with all that lovely dosh.

How are you getting on with your stop smoking campaign ? I have to confess I have probably smoked about twenty since I "stopped" on 1st Feb, but that's not too bad when you consider that if I hadn't "stopped", I'd have smoked between 2000 and 2500 in the same time period.

Good going SR - bloody 'ell work out how much you've saved!

Our place has a couple of nice Turkish rugs bought with the 'ill-gotten' gains from stopping smoking attempts!!

Keep going, the hardest part is done.

well my attempt of March 7 lasted the usual 3 days. gave up again (attempt no. 374) on Sunday night, 23rd April. first 3 days have not been too bad, and today am going to the dentist to start the process of getting my teeth whitened. there's a psychology behind this, kind of like the persian rugs but in reverse! the idea is to get the teeth all clean and lovely and white and then I wont be able to smoke because it'll spoil them. given that I have tried willpower, Allen Carr, hypnosis, putting money in the jar etc etc etc, this seems as good an idea as any. the thing that has worked twice was pregnancy, but I really dont want to go down that route again!!!!
