We tried too - been painting a soft pine outdoor table with wood preservative. A single drop would have ruined it - alas nothing yet.

I did think there was rain starting at some point, but it was just a bird cr*pping on me.

Out of interest- how big were the hailstones???

The biggest I've ever seen in the UK were a tad less than 1cm...but several years ago in Italy( July) ping pong ball sized!!!

I'd say a bit bigger than a pearl Nicos, and were hitting the windows so hard I thought the glass would break. Daughter and family were at Asda in Handsworth and aquaplaned on the Parkway to get home. Penistone Road B & Q had to mop up a bit of flood too. Been glorious all afternoon again here!

Every time I tried to paint a fence recently, it has been threatening to rain, or has been raining. In addition, lots of sea fog - extending further inland than usual, all the way to Banchory - only burning off at about midday. In the last couple of days, we have had a wee sprinkle of rain early in the mornings, but nothing much. Between that and the 22 degrees days with everyone getting a bit sunburned in April, I must say I think we have been lucky here - but I get the feeling that this summer is going to be a rerun of 2003, hotter than the hinges of H*ll and with nasty floods...

Flo a good few years ago I had a car written off in a very localised East Anglian hailstorm in mid summer. They were golf ball sized, smashed every pane of glass in the greenhouse roof, and made dents like a hammer in the roof and bonnet of my car. I caught a few and shoved them in the freezer as evidence on my insurance claim - somebody used them as ice cubes in drinks!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Wow Jeanie that must have been scarey! Apparently a new Halford's store was flooded (in the Hillsborough area) and although they'd two games left, the Bingo parlour next door had to be evacuated because water was pouring in. Imagine if you were shouting "pull it"!
