  • Another odd thread from me.

Can anyone recommend a waterproof mascara, to highlight grey-blue eyes, that is cruelty free? I have discovered that L'Oreal stuff is not tested on animals, but that so far leaves me looking at YSL at £22 a go!

So anyone help with a suggestion please?

Avon only test their products (and the ingredients I believe) on human volunteers if that is of interest.

and um....did you mean they don't test their products on animals, or they don't use ingredients tested on animals? if it's the former, l'oreal do use ingredients tested on animals, but dont test the final product on them, but the body shop don't use ingredients or test on aminals.
and sorry for the many replies....
and the more you read about animal testing and the ripples in the pool, it might be better to make your own from coal and vaseline

L'Oréal Paris has not used an animal laboratory to test our cosmetics products since 1989.

European and national level regulations mean that manufacturers must conduct tests on animals to guarantee the safety and tolerance of the chemical ingredients they use.

For 20 years, L'Oréal Paris has taken significant steps to research, develop and validate alternative methods to laboratory animal testing.

Beyond the progress already accomplished, industry and university researchers must embrace a new challenge in years to come: to develop new, regulatory approved, alternative ways to evaluate chemical ingredients in the domains of toxicology where such methods no longer exist.

L'Oréal Paris aspires to a total elimination of laboratory animal testing. Our group is an active member of the European Partnership for the Development of Alternative Methods, put in place by the European Commission in November 2005. We aim to do everything reasonably possible to promote this programme through our actions.

The recent acquisition of the Skin Ethic tissue engineering organisation is testament to this ongoing concern and confirms the leading position of our group - L'Oréal - in the domain of alternative research methods.

They're part of the L'Oreal Group.

But I shall also look on the BUAV site:

Personally I'm more concerned about some of the dodgy products that they put in cosmetics and what make up I do use has to be as natural as possible. The only mascara I own is a Dr Hauschka brown one (I have hazel eyes and like a natural look so black is too dark and I don't like fancy / jazzy colours). It's not the cheapest but then it lasts me ages and I don't want to shove nasty stuff on my face, particularly round my eyes and it's not tested on animals either.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Of all cosmetics mascara is the one you have to watch for bacteria...apparently you should chuck it after three months......and yes, mine is at least a year old

I stopped using waterproof mascara years ago, I find it too difficult to remove. My problem is finding a mascara that doesn't clog and has a brush big enough for me to see when applying it. How do other spectacle wearers manage? I have a magnifying mirror, but it's still a faff. My granddaughters love it, they get lots of mascara, used only once! Hope you find what you're looking for Manda and that it doesn't cost the earth!

I've bought some waterproof Body Shop mascara (on offer at £7), and at the minute there's free p&p, 30% off, plus get 2nd item half price and 15% TopCashBack... so I bought some waterproof eye make remover too.
