Plant Sale result!

Well, we had our plant sale today, first one ever, only advertised with a few posters (I made) in the local Dr's, library, chippy, etc.

We made £175.15 in total, £80 from the sale of plants, £47 from the tombola, £5.50 from honey (10% of the sales was donated to the plot funds) and the rest from cakes, teas, coffee and squash!

All in all a good result, one we are all happy with and not too bad at all for our first ever plant sale! Next year we are going to repeat it again, with a bit more advetising and perhaps a few more different veg types!

We sold 45 chillies (only 10 left over) and 60 toms (45 left over) and lots of lettuce, pumpkins, squashes, hanging baskets of toms, cucumbers, herbs and fruit bushes! Only a few chillies, just under half the toms and some of the flowers left over, which we split between those plotholders who had been involved with the plant sale!

All in all a good day, followed with a BBQ on Daves plot (under his new pergola) with lots of food and plenty of homebrew! A fun day despite the wind!

Thanks guys, it did seem to go well, we didnt sell out of all the plants, but the local paper didnt run an issue this month, so we werent able to advertise it in there (which we think would have made a big difference), but £175 raised is more than we raise with our allotment subs, so when you put it into context, thats pretty good going!

We were selling most of the plants at 50p each, or 3 for a £1, although the lettuces were sold by the module, with at least 8 plants per module for £1, fruit bushes (spares and cutting dug up from folks plots) were going for £2 to £5, a crown of rhubarb for £2, and hanging baskets with tumbling toms for £2 each.

Chris, Lol, the pots were anything from 2" to 4", mainly the older ones we had lying around, we need to replace some now, so will be paying the GC a visit to pick up some of the 'recycle' ones they have for you to take!

Taff, The plants, compost, tubs, pots etc were all donated by us all, so the cost of it all was something we havent factored into the plant sale as we are covering that cost ourselves (not a big cost tho, as we just planted a few extra seeds), and as the proceeds are going to the allotment society funds (hopefully to help with the new community orchard), they wont feature on my balance sheet this year.

Florian, if you want you're site to do one, then organise it yourself, we had the idea in Feb, discussed it at the committee pre AGM meeting, then voted on it at the AGM, asking for plant donations, then we designed a posterre, and organised a few of us to run the day, it wasnt difficult, and was actually fun, plus gave us a great way of involving the local community. Loads of folks signed up for plots, plus loads of folks got advice on how to grow on their plants in their back gardens. If we've managed to get some of them to grow somethinhg they can harvest, then it will have been worthwhile!

I am so pleased it went well Sadly I am still on the waiting list for an allotment but will be sure to suggest it if I am lucky enough to get a plot!

Np, Im sorry I assumed you already had a plot, I hope you get one in the very near future! If you are on the waiting list, have you tried going to the plot every month to have a look, note down any plots not being used and keep asking the secretary, dont pester, but show you are really interested, you may well move higher up the list

I am in regular email contact with the secretary (who is lovely!) and I do seem to be (very) slowly be moving up the list. As you suggest, I am trying hard to strike the balance between keen and annoying! I have even offered to help out if anyone just needs a hand digging or building but nothing so far
