Landlord Selling up :(

Morning all.

Long time no speak. Hope all is well on the vine.

Just found out my landlord wants to sell our home of 4 years. As we rent there is a strong possibility we will have to get rid of our chickens as not many landlords will allow them.

He doesnt want to do it immediately but it is imminent. Not a good feeling to know all the hard work and stability you have created over the years is all about to change. I know you cannot guarantee anything when you rent but our landlord just let is be and it has come as quite a shock.

We cant move far as we only have one car (which hubby uses everyday for work) have only just got our allotment and the kids are in important years at school. This really limits us on our search.

On the upside tho our chicks are growing fast (nearly 5 weeks) and the little brown one has really (for it age and compared to the rest) large comb and wattles..... any reason for this?

Being in rented property I know exactly how you feel...we came back from a camping holiday nearly four years ago to the same news.
It all worked out in the end,found a house even closer to the school and lottie than the previous one and we moved the chooks to the lottie.

I know it's not going to be an easy time so won't patronise you by saying it will all come good and not to worry...instead ...thinking of you and hope you manage to find something soon.{{{hugs}}}

Its difficult for you, having been a landlord that had to sell I know from both sides the pitfalls of renting. When we sold ours it was because the tennant was horrible and we had, had enough. Can you put the chicks on the plot or let someone else look after them till you find something where you can have them. Make sure that the landlord gives you proper notice to quit, we got it slightly wrong and had to start again so took longer to get the tennant out.
Good luck in your search for somewhere new to live, also have you thought about weather you could afford to buy the property from the landlord. As you have lived there so long dont you have some sort of right of buying.

The landlord has many properties. He has offered us first refusal but, one, I am a 'discharged bankrupt' therefore getting a mortgage is pretty slim and we certainly dont have any money for a deposit and two, the house has a lot of things wrong with it, mainly damp so would not be a great investment.

I think we will have a good few months to search for somewhere new, maybe even til next year.

Just so hard when you actually start to feel like its your home, something difficult to do in rented!

Hubby just been offered a promotion! (yes for those of you that remember, the same job he thought he was being kicked out of a few months ago!)

So sorry about your home but congrats on the OH job. Try not to panic munch, as Di says you never know it may be a good move, especially if you find a home nearer the things you need and in a better condition with no damp. Sending positive vibes your way. xxx

As said before, I wont say things will be alright etc etc as I also know how difficult things can be, but I really really hope they work out as well as you want them to.

Every cloud and all that.....you never know the next house might be even better!!
We rented for the first part of our marriage -Infact we were in exactly the same situation as you in one property we had - landlord wanted to sell the property and we had to get out - we'de been there for over 2 years and were really settled - we got 2 months notice and hoards of 'prospective buyers' turning up all the time, nightmare, esp with a 2 year old! I hated renting and really hope your landlord is better than ours was.

One possible positive. If the house has problems (eg damp), it may not sell!
If you want to deter possible purchasers, make sure you've kept things warm, moist and poorly ventilated for a day or so before each viewing. Make the most of the dampness this way, so they don't want to buy! (not to be taken seriously, but poorly ventilated warm does increase damp, so do untended gutters, high ground-levels by the wall, and a few other common approaches).

Sorry to hear about the house and congrats to your OH. We rent and trying to save hard for a deposit, its our worst nightmare if we had to move again, but think we are safe for the time being. Good luck in your search, this could be a positive thing: a house without damp.
