  • I'm an Auntie!

Mr OWG's sister finally gave birth on Saturday night!

She has been about 3cm dilated and having contractions all week, but they didn't deem it necessary for her to go to hospital.

Her waters broke on Saturday morning, and she gave birth to a little boy (about 8.5lbs) about 9.30pm, Saturday night

She had a pretty hard time of it, as the baby was facing the wrong way round (not breech, but something called "back to back" where the baby's face is up, not down) and it makes for a really painful labour. She tore a bit as well, but apparantly nothing serious.

What made me laugh lots was that SIL's boyfriend says that they're going to wait a bit before having another baby (SIL is 17!), as he "didn't realise how much it would hurt her"

We've not been to see them yet as she came out of hospital last night and they currently have a house full of family (boyfriends parents and siblings have come to stay). We'll probably go over at some point this week.

We're not as thrilled as we could be due to the circumstances of the pregnancy (17 year old SIL got pregnant on purpose without telling boyfriend etc) and the fact that OH doesn't get on with his parents/family etc.

Of course, we'll be there if she needs us, and have offered to buy half of the pram/pushchair thing they want (god, are those things expensive!!) but I doubt we'll see much of the baby, since we've only seen SIL 3 times in her whole pregnancy...

    Congratulations.
You could buy your nephew a small toy bucket to use when he is older.....he'll be a great help to you on the lottie if you can get him interested in soil and buckets at an early age!!!

Congratuations any way, OWG, it is nice to have new family members,(maybe he wil 'heal the breech' a bit?)
In my experience, most small boys like digging, so get him going - you'll not regret it, but his parents might!!

Congrats OWG. Maybe things with the ILs will improve, you never know.

In my limited experience, small children of both genders don't need encouragement to get dirty, especially if water is also involved. It's good fun and healthy and dirt washes out. You could also make sure he has a "messy play" outfit for the times he comes to dig with you

Hmm, child labour sounds like a good idea...

Now we just have to teach the dog to dig in the right spot and I can sit back and let nephew and dog do the work!

Congratulations OWG .Having had a fall out in my own family I know how you feel .But newborn children have a way of bringing people together agian. The whys dont matter now . Its all about getting and giving the best that everyone can to give him the best that you all can. The rest will come given time.
There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore and who always will. Don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it in your future.

Congrats on the addition to the Family Tree. New life is always exciting - plants or babies - hope you become closer now.

Funny you should say that lyndap!

Apparantly the plan was to try for another baby once she had stopped breastfeeding 1st nephew (who is 3 days old!!)

But boyfriend doesn't want to put SIL through "that kind of pain again"
He was surprised how long labour could be and how much it actually hurt the mum!!

Also... last night SIL complained that the baby wouldn't sleep for more than a couple of hours at a time and she had only had 3 or so hours sleep and was too tired to feed him. She was surprised that he wouldn't sleep through the night!

I think it's one of the problems you get when a young naive girl has a baby. She honestly has no idea about how hard it can be. I've never had kids, but I know that labour hurts and that babies don't often sleep through!

We're off to see him on Wednesday, after all the other relatives have decamped back to Bradford.

                            Pics of my new nephew

                            Please meet Jake:

This is Auntie OWG with him:

And Mr OWG with his nephew (don't tell him I posted his picture on here!!)

He is such a lovely calm baby. Didn't make a sound most of the night, just laid there stretching his arms and legs out and opening and closing his eyes!
