Bees rescued from rentokill

One of our beekeepers at the lottie got a phone call from his daughter in Kent that a massive swarm of wasps had formed in their street and everyone was afraid to go out. He realised they were bees!

He was told that rentakill had been called to dispose of the swarm. This was at 10pm and we are near liverpool. He was in Kent 4 hours later rescuing the bees before they were killed by rentokill. Apparently it's illegal to kill them but the rentokill man said he would have killed them when he turned up the next morning.

They have been re hived back here on the wirral now........I thought it was worth sharing the story.

If it's illegal, why would he have killed them?! Annoys me, rather than dealing with issues, firms like rentokill just exterminate pests (especially in situations like this, they should have realised that bees swarm!!)

The bees that live in our roof are due to swarm any day soon. Never been a problem - it only lasts an hour or so and then it all returns to normal. Quite "Hitchcockesque" while it's going on, though!

Bee swarms are natural, I cant believe renokill would just have killed them! Beekeepers are desperate for new colonies.

Well done that man, bee keepers lost a fifth of their hives last year that means a fifth of the main pollinators.

However judging by the number of pest control companies that advertise they will pop round and kill your bees and remove the nest it can't be illegal maybe it damn well should be.

Would it not be better if all pest control companies had to keep a register of local bee keepers and be required to approach these people before even considering extermination.

Yes. What a good idea......the only drawback is the mighty dollar. Tey would lose out on a lucrative job. People should have a helpline at the council wh could then refer to the beekeepers direct.

I was driven into my shed last Wednesday by a massive swarm of bees in the garden. They'd have been from Him-round-the-corner who has been a bee keeper for ages. They were heading back in his direction too! Homing bees.

Yes, I'm afraid the Rentokil man would have been driven by money. What amazes me is that school meals in Hull were taken over by Rentokil several years ago. I know kids can be pests but really!

We've got bats in the attic
But seriously one of our neighbours suggested we get in a pest diposal service and was very offended when we pointed out that a) they are protected by law and b) we love 'em and wouldn't dream of it.
