So there I was, talking to my chum and chumlette about their new veg garden, discussing the planting plan, soft fruit etc, nice cup of tea in hand and then she said the dreaded words - 'I've got a load of flower seeds, can we use them, had them for a couple of years or so?'.

I'm trying to finish some of the seeds I bought last year, not to mention those I bought with me from the UK and my Heritage Seed Library packets.

I was strong, I thought of having to eat all the biscuits so I have a nice tin for them and finished my tea.

    And I said ............

'Probably, let's have a look at them'

So yesterday I spent the whole morning putting in her seeds into another 20 seed trays or more and I still seem to have a net surplus of another 15 or so packets! Not to mention the veggie seeds I put in for them, the main problem now is that I've got all the trays lined up along the very wide coping stones on top of a wall at the back of the house cos there's NO MORE SPACE - Arrrrrrrrrgh!!!

I promise the great goddess of gardening that apart from France Rurale, Jardiland and Heritage Seed Library I'll try not to go anywhere that I'll be tempted by seeds for 'next year'.

Thanks for making me laugh everyone! Ive got eight different types of tatties this year, and after reading these posts don't feel alone now! When OH comes home from work with a huge carrier bag of packets of seeds its like christmas and my birthday all rolled into one! At least I've been able to pass some onto other grapes. My name is Earthbabe.... I am a seed-a-holic

I don't know have many varieties of anything I have ...... but I haven't bought any seeds for a week. This is very hard and I am having to avoid shops that sell seeds. This makes doing the weekly shopping very difficult as I shop in Lidl. They have very kindly only got one carousel this year and I am managing to restrain myself from looking again, and again, and again.

My name is Hazel and I'm a seed-a-holic.

However, I am also VERY MISERLY and so I spend an awful lot of time gazingly longingly at the seed displays (esp those which are buy one get one free - you know who you are wilko!) ...and then don't actually buy very much. This is WORSE than buying as I spend a lot of time but don't actually get any seeds for my pains! Also v v irritating if I'm shopping with anyone.

Glad it's not just me really - try to justify it that as far as purchases go, a packet of seeds doesn't cost alot but did I really need all those packets of herb seeds I ordered the other day. More to the point, how did I manage to justify buying GW magazine at the petrol station (you'd think you'd be safe there!) cos it had some free seeds that I didn't really need (toms, chives and mixed lettuce, all of which I already have!!!!!). Don't even have OH tut tutting as he has his own obsessions with bike bits and they cost loads more!!!!!!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

So today I went to the local town for bread, hair cut and to pick up this weeks magazine order.

And as I was cruising through the gardening mags - like you do - thought I found one that looked interesting, bought it and voila, there was a free packet of T&M seeds in with it!

Obviously SeedsAnon haven't arrived in France yet!

I have just sowed some of the seeds I bought on holiday in Spain last year. What was I thinking of! Spanish tomatoes growing in Shetland!!! But I just had to have them - and about six other packets.

Do you think we could have an internet group hypnotherapy session?

Don't know about that Jennie, it seems the whole vine fulfills that purpose!
Tomorrow or Friday (fruit days) I'm planting some Pomodoro tomato seeds we brought back from Crete last year - the really big Cretan type tomatoes.

Meanwhile, tonight I was drooling over this website which may interest folks
Please understand that Crete is our spiritual home.

                          Never enough seeds....

All the time I have tried to justify my seed buying to my partner because he just didn't understand, thought I was crazy, foolish. I told him that I don't drink or smoke so that seeds were my vice. Working at a garden centre makes it so much easier to sneek them home after buying, (sometimes tucked in the back of my trousers/nickers so my partner didn't see them, which was always a nice suprise when it came to bedtime and getting undressed, a little packet would flutter to the floor, and I would smile and secretly think 'YEAH, another packet!'). I found using the children was a successful but sneeky was of getting more seeds. I would ask them what they would like to grow this year, and of course they go mental and pick at least 5 packets each. They would soon lose interest in the seeds and so it was left to me to add to my collection. Mmmmm, did I feel guilty? No, not really, but I do feel as though I should - a bit, slightly, a smidge, Ooohhhhh, I can't help it. You just can't beat that feeling when you see a little tiny green head poking out of the compost, it's the first thing I do when I wake up, run round all the window sills to see who's up, Aaaarrrrrr, heavenly, beautiful seeds.

                              I love these postings.
I too am a seed-a-holic..... terrified of being the only one, I can now sleep happily at night, knowing I have friends out there who are just the same as me
I know it's a flower but try sowing the blue form of Ipomoea! (why did I buy flower seed in the first place!)
                              but stand back!!!!! well back!
or is it just me and mine?

Me too! I go out to the greenhouse in my PJs, dressing gown and wellies first thing and last thing to cover/uncover as appropriate, water etc.

I often come in the house very excited to tell Mr OWG about a new cucumber seedling or that the pepper plants are getting their second leave or such like...
