Planted all my Garlic out, my onions and my Cabbage and coliflower and the asperagus is now coming through but I have used all my water up.....

Mains water dosen't come on till Easter......

    ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I may have to register my plot with the UN as a sovrien state and get them to drop me some.

Does anyone know if you can land a C130 Hercules on a 10 rod plot.

Oh Nog. Anybody down there not using their water ? There's always a slow coach ! Other than that you can carry it there in bottles and dole it out by the half ladle. Or get on to the powers that be and point out that Easter is a movable feast and some years it would have fallen in March - so can you have the water on now, thank you very much.

We dont have mains water on our site, just water butts. Ive just bought a 5 gallon water container, filled it with water at home, attached it to the little trolley I have for my suitcase, its in the back of the car ready to take and fill up my water butt tonight. Will keep doing this until they are full and I can use it if I get short of water in the summer. Bernie aka Dexterdog

Nope been to every tank and used it all. I could try to get it turned on but when I when to the canteen and asked for a coffee at 10.29am they nearly did to me what they did to the Wicker man. "TEA is served at 10.30"....So asking for the water on early they would probally burn my house down.

This Spring has been so wet you shouldn't need to be watering yet. If the soil is damp 3 or 4 inches down leave it alone. If you keep watering the roots of the plants stay near the surface and are more prone to drying out and damage than if they do what they should do and go down into the earth looking for water. If you do have to water, give a really good soaking once a week, not a little every day - that does more harm than good

I am watering in the greenhouses on the plot but have lots of stored rainwater.

Our mains water gets turned on at the begining of April but its unlikely to be needed for a while yet as the soil is so damp.

Ahh the bliss of permanent water although the only stuff i've used is where I've put in some fruit bushes in the last few days and a few seeds just to give them a start as the top inch or so is quite dry.

Do you want to try laying a pipe from Southampton to Surrey NOG or shall we hijack some of the pipe already in the ground and see if it can be diverted?

We have loads of water....we are right next to the pumping station, Ever seen those films of the blitz where there are three firemen (Heros to a Man) trying to controll one hose, well thats what the pressure is. If you don't bury your spuds deep enought you can wash them back out.

But.......its truned off. Think I may have been saved as it rained all day so the ground will be wet and my butts will have refilled. But it was touch and go as last weekend I planted my cabbage and colis out.

I could have tried devining but as we are right next to the pump house I would have got a rod in the eye.

                          wasting water

We're lucky to have water all year round, which is good because my plot is a five mile round trip by bike. However I am very frugal with water, and get quite cross with newbies who fix the hose up every night to water BARE EARTH! There aren't even any seedlings to water yet, but the hose goes on regardless. Oi, I am paying for your water!

Another thing, up here on silty soil, watering the bare soil causes it to form into a hard cap which can be so hard as to stop seeds coming thru at all.

I am v.v.smug at the mo because my butts are all linked up to collect max possible rainwater off my shed. Each drains into the others now instead of overflowing onto the ground when full

In the last week i've had to use the hose at the lottie - really because my water butt had run dry its set to catch the shed roof run-off but we've not had any rain to top it up for a while now!

Also our soil dries out so, so quickly and then sets like concrete. I have to water to get the seedlings up, and then they're fine.
There's vegetable growing in the family, but I must be adopted

Re C130 Hercules. Good for jumping out of! Will land on rough ground but will make 1 heap mess. Try it, I for one would like to see the pictures.
