Due to excessive high winds this last week or so my early potato foliage has started to wilt and become discoloured. Will the crop survive this or is there anything I can do to help the crop recover

I would think they will be OK as a general rule spuds just want to grow,last week I had windburn on my cucumbers so wrapped some fleece on the windward sides of the climbing frame & the new growth is fine

The wind broke a lot of my spuds' halums last year in sacks - where they were snapped I cut them off as they were a mess, and they just branched out a bit more from the snapped off section, as long as you have some green foilage, so that they can create the energy to pack into the tubers I'd say you'd be fine. I tend to take anything off my plants like that, as damaged foilage can potentially be an entry point for disease.
You could leave them a couple of weeks later than when you planned on harvesting them so they'll have that bit of extra time to swell some more (making sure that they're watered well).. but watch out for blight if they're main crops.Comment
