Whilst in the supermarket at the weekend, you know, the one that isn't happy unless it has a share of everybody else's market, I noticed that they still had onion sets on sale. The packaging clearly stated best planted before end of April so seeing a manager barking out orders to his subordinates, I pointed out that no-one planting onion sets now would be likely to get a crop and beginners could possibly be buying the product in expectation of doing so. He looked at me as if I was stupid (maybe he is right in that) and then said "Oh, don't worry about it" and then put the packet I gave him back on the shelf. The till receipt invites comments on "How we did today" By golly they got comments.

Under the new system I can't be bothered to 'go advanced' to put a smiley on my message. It was soo much easier to just click on the emoticon.Last edited by Aberdeenplotter; 14-06-2011, 11:19 PM.

...or just do a : followed by a )...
I've not done so this year but the last couple of years I planted some really late sets(about now) for pickling....not defending the supermarket but just suggesting if you see any knocked down in price it's worth buying .....that was a ; and a )the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.

There is also a good DIY store in Aberkenfig called Bakers. They sell all seeds as individuals or by the mug, help yourself, call in around february when they get stock in. Super prices.Last edited by Mikey; 15-06-2011, 08:19 AM.I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

I've heard about that DIY store before, but forgot the name of it - thanks

Found it, grannymen:
Bodmind plant and herb centre - Home
Very knowledgable staff.. I was close to spending a lot of money there, and I presume the owner advised me otherwise (asking me where I was from - mentioning that my cool, wet windy climate wouldn't be suitable for the trees I had on my trolley). Not often would a place turn down a reasonable large sale! [it was my birthday.. I wanted a 'couple' of trees]
