Now you are talking!! Given the hour, I will return after a ponder.........

Interesting choice you have there, PTS - Pedi and Abbot being good 'n' chewy and the summer lightening for the milder palate - tim taylor a fine stand by (if it's kept well!)........

Fortunate here to be near the Church End brewery (which NTG llives NEXT DORR TO lucky sod....) which do a really fine lighter ale - good summer swigging beer!

Look forward to the grape view on this one.......

Depends on your definition of 'southern', Geordie - still can't go anywhere near any of the Fuller's beers without a sneer - 'London Pride' - er not, I think!

I once went to visit a mate who lived in Axbridge in Somerset, where the landlord of the local pub used to make his own 'winter brew'. Literally 2 barrels of beer made and kept outside. After consuming liberal quantities one night, I lost the next 3 days and probably risked my sight drinking that stuff!....Fantastic!!

            Marstons Pedigree
            Theakstones old perculiar
            Guinness extra cold
            Steaming Billy
            Bishops finger

I know that guinness is a stout rather than an ale but I think it can sit snugly in my choice list.

theakstons best, black sheep, magnet, deuchars & timothy taylor landlord. All are far too good to use in slug traps. On the other hand the only thing Newcastle brown is good for is catching slugs!!

Fullers also do a very good porter.
                          So do Burton Bridge.

Thanks BW - that's the stuff. To my knowledge there is only 1 Bateman's pub north of the Humber - just happens to be 10mins from where I'm sat.
