Travelling from one country to another to meet up with people you've met over the internet could be classed as iffy but it wasn't ......sometimes you have to be brave

I wouldn't do that either unless I had it was either through a mutual friend / work etc, not really a lack of bravery thing, just a "can't imagine why I'd ever want to" thing but can't think of a snappy phrase for that

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I've said before, as recently as 5 years ago I thought it was weird to meet people on the internet.

Those I met at Wisley 2 years ago seemed quite normal.

With the exception of RT, of course!

Well I've made some crackin' friends through here ......had the opportunity to share seeds, plants knowledge, booze, cakes etc.....with people who don't get that eyes glazed over look when you start talking about veg.. and yes it's nice to acknowledge that friendship by being a friend on here or on faceache.

Absolutely! I thoroughly enjoyed your cake - and isn't it weird when you then meet other people through completely non internet based activities that are friends of grapes in real life

Wasn't meant as a dig about people on here, was more thinking actually more of internet dating sites which I have no use for seeing as I have a lovely OH already (think he'd be a bit annoyed if I did join any ). Re meet ups that you guys have, they're not really my scene which is right for me but not for some of you. I have lots of friends both locally and in other parts of the UK (and a few abroad now I come to think of it) and due to lots of other committments, I struggle to find time to spend with them therefore to go overseas to meet somebody I didn't know seems a bit rude to the dear friends I've known for many years as I could be seeing instead. Simply a practical thing really I suppose, you don't need to understand but just appreciate a different point of view.

Alternatively if your query was why I didn't know a snappy phrase, I think that's just a lack of depth in my vocab

It's more a case of you saying 'i can't imagine why I would want to' sounding more than a little patronising...I'm not saying everyone you meet online is great but there's lots of good people that are great fun that I'm very happy to have interacted with in real life that i met on t'internet - Mr Z being one of them.

To me, the "virtual" friends I have on here are just as important as my "real" friends. In fact I probably talk more regularly to my friends on here! I don't feel under any obligation to meet up, but I dare say eventually it could happen and I'm sure I would be recognised from my turn of phrase, my sparkling wit, or either of my two heads.

When I joined this forum, I never thought I'd have seeds hand delivered to me out of the boot of a car during working hours

No idea what that must have looked like.. boot opens, hand in a big envelope, passed over and quickly stuffed into my pocket!

Oi! I resemble that remark... Although I cannot comment on my sanity after climbing the car with the pilot who drove us there

Tis a problem with not being able to see people when they talk to them that you can't judge what somebody means by their body language. Perhaps I should have said that I couldn't imagine any circumstances where I'd want to as I genuinely can't. I also can't imagine any circumstances when I'd say, take up ball room dancing, travel to the moon or go deep sea diving but for somebody else it might be their lifetime ambition / favourite hobby etc etc and that's great for them. Wasn't meant in a looking down way, just a response to me feeling I was being critisised (possibly not but then again I wasn't being patronising.....) for not being brave when it was nothing to do with that. Honestly (as I already said) I'm not having a go but it works both ways.
