  • How long should it take .....

    For a lump sum of cash, paid into a different branch of the same bank, to appear in the account it was paid into?
    My daughter paid some cash into an account for me. She went into her local Barclays on the 27th June and paid it into an account in a different branch of Barclays bank. Today, 4th July it still hasnt appeared.
    Is this normal? Its been a long time since I've done such a thing in UK banks, so I have no idea. Any help muchos appreciated. Ta

    Certainly shouldn't take that long. Even taking into account the weekend, that is six days. Ridiculous, and well worth a phone call to find out what is going on.

      Is your balance showing the amount, but your cleared blance showing the pre-deposit amount? If so, it's probably not cleared yet. Odd though, as we paid in a large sum of money in cash, and it was available instantly.

      I'd give them a bell if I were you?

        Barclays say one day for cash to another account with Barclays, up to 3 days to transfer to a different bank.

          Its a bit complex. I transferred cash electronically to my daughters account. That money has left my account and arrived in hers, no worries thus far. She then physically took the money out of her account and walked to the Barclays, and paid it in for another Barclays account elsewhere in the country. Still no sign of said cash. Curses.

              Ive done this a few times, cash should be instant and transfers "in house" take 24 hours. I would definitely give them a call. Hope it all gets sorted x

                    Being a life long saver and investor,my advice is to ditch all banks and stick with mutuals that are member owned.No shareholders to please!

                      I'm afraid we had an argument with Barclays about the same thing, they claimed it needed 5 working days to 'clear' a deposit.

                      They couldn't explain how it took so long to 'clear' a sum of cash, when it's really only meant to apply to card payments, cheques and transfers.

                      Our complaint speeded things up!

                        In my experience cash in at a Barclays branch has been available instantly to a needy son standing at a cash point 300 miles away.....
                        Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you are probably right.

                          I've often had desperate phone calls from son or daughter needing money in the account 'now' to prevent charges for unpaid DD or SO. The banks they use, if it is deposited cash before 2.30 it is in the account THAT DAY.
                          I am sure one of them used Barclays at least one time I had to pay money in this way!
                          Nat West are much better (in most ways, but they don't half charge if you DO get overdrawn!).
