Wasn't trying to start another grammar debate, it's just those are the words I most have to change in thread titles... It slipped by un-noticed in the middle of the night til valmarg revived it... Apologies if I've upset anyone

Twas a light hearted interlude on a rainy day. I enjoyed the banter
I often get homework sheets sent home from school for my son with grammar and spelling mistakes. I send them back marked in red.
And don't get me started on the day I went in the travel agency that had a HUGE sign outside with Viva Espania written on it...you'd think they would have been pleased someone had pointed out their mistake... but no it was still there a week later, so I complained again, only to be told that their head office had refused to change it! Muppets.
And 3 years in a row my son has had his school report with wrong spellings (and they get his name wrong too)! I point them out and they print me off another one...
I don't get upset if someone points out my mistakes, I treat it as an opportunity to learn more stuff.
Depends how it's done of course, but I think we're all polite on here aren't we? Somebody recently criticised my use of the phrase "bored beans" but I didn't get huffy ~ I just thought fair enough, that's their opinion and they're entitled to it. I didn't take it personally.

I think the English language is a constantly evolving thing. Read any olde bookes and ye wille finde loades of annoyinge thinges that have now changed. I do worry that text-speak will take over, though.

I have many senior colleagues at work (senior in rank, not age, far from it) who can't spell for toffee. Most annoying. I must admit though, it annoyed me more when I was a secretary as I was responsible for correcting said spelling mistakes and they then and still do earn a lot more money than me.
