hows big is your plot, how about giving up half.As you know many plants require little work.I'm thinking leeks, dwarf beans, squash both summer and winter, sweetcorn and peppers and many more.Use raised beds and plenty of mulch and weed suppresing membrane and you'll beat mr arthritus back a few more years.
    Best of luck with everything

So sorry to hear you have to give up your allotment. I had to give up my big garden as well and its amazing how much can be grown in raised beds and containers. As others have said, you won't have so far to travel to get your veg from the garden.Good luck and please keep us informed as to haw you are getting along.
Regarding getting old disgracefully, I am well into my 60's and am still enjoying life and everything it has to offer.
      Way to go.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Bad news - I'm really sorry to hear that. Try square foot gardening.

Aww...that's sad Zeb...but glad you intend to carry on in your own garden...just think of the pleasure though that you'll be giving someone else when they hear they're be 'inheriting' your plot.

Do remember to remove some of your plants to pot up ( that's if you have space )

Already planned, and space earmarked, Nicos. It's no good getting old if you don't get crafty!

Growing old's a p*sser innit? Good to see you have a strategy for the future though. Raised beds must make things easier - once you've got them installed, that it. Good luck with it.

To be perfectly honest, Flum, growing old's not the problem... it's what it does to me! After all, it now takes me all night to do what I used to do all night!

Only just managed to log in- grrrr
Sorry to hear about you giving up your plot Zebedee, but it is good news that you are going to have some deep beds.
I have been growing in deep beds for 15 or so years now- when I started they were almost laughed at (were laughed at by my fellow aged plot holders) There was very little published about them.... my how things have changed!
Keep them well watered - guess you know all this anyway
                        Good luck Zebedee!
