  • My 'not exactly new' new car

I have a car - well a truck to be precise and she's lovely. A little battered, showing her age somewhat but a nice coat of Marine Blue and she'll be as good as new.

I've been without a car for 6 years now, mostly relying on the buses and occassionaly using OHs daily driver but this car is mine.

That is to say she will be just as soon as OH is happy that her brakes are new (Series Landy brakes are notoriously ... urmmm ... unpredictable, OH informs me ) and he's replaced her leaf springs (her current ones have sagged so much I wouldn't be able to drive her, so I'm told ) and she definitely needs a new set of tyres before I can take her out (because, although there is plenty of tread on her tyres, they're just TOO hard for every day driving at the moment and I need softer all terrain ones instead - apparently).

Ooops nearly forgot, the gearbox needs sorting out, OH is very concerned that I wouldn't be able to manage gear changes because some spring or other isn't working properly - he's so considerate.

She does have a brand new MOT and OH tells me she's a sound little thing (well big thing) but, until he's satisified that he's sorted out the areas he feels are problem areas, all I can do is admire her on the drive, fuss over her and help him where I can .

Of course Landy mad OH has to keep taking her out for test drives, to ensure that each little improvement/replacement/repair has done what it's supposed to do but she's not quite ready for me to drive yet .......... hmmmmmmmmm

    Annie the day she arrived

Reminds me of when OH bought me a little mini as a runaround. Needed some work doing, so he said, and when he realised it was a Cooper S I never did get to drive it.

I hope you enjoy looking at her as I doubt whether you are going to get to drive her, by the sounds of it.
