  • Helicopter Crash on BBC News

It happened yesterday just outside our village! We actually heard it go over, but didn't hear it come down (thank God)!
There was a "blink and you'll miss it" mention on the national news last night, but anyone who watches the local News (Spotlight/West Country Tonight) will have seen a much more in depth report. They still don't know the whys and wherefores, but it seems the pilot struggled to keep it in the air long enough to clear the village!!!
Horrible reason for the village to be in the news!
Thoughts are with the family of the pilot who died in the accident.

creemteez - very sad for all and that includes you.
I too have been in a similar situation - heard a plane come over which sounded 'odd' I went outside to look but it was very grey day with low clouds so could not see the plane - sadly moments later it crashed (did not hear the crash in which two died) I still feel sad and that was now over a year ago.
I work very close (under flight path) of local and very, very busy little airport. We have had several nasty small plane / helicopter crashes within several fields of here. One was a Harrier Jump jet!! both crew were ok but I bet they had some explaining to do as to how they 'trashed' the plane.
ps they train pilots at the airport and often turn OFF the engines, I hold my breath until I hear them re start

heard this story - apparently true. A lorry driver was on the road very close to Kinross AFB. Saw a very bright splash of sparks in his rearview mirror. Thinking there was a crash, he pulled over to the side of the road, just in time for an RAF F4 Phantom to go sliding past, minus wheels. Apparently the brakes failed, and the fighter skidded out onto the highway. The driver reported that the two crew members got out, looked at the plane, one of them kicked it (presumably the pilot), then they walked back towards the airfield to meet the emergency crews.
