Ive neglected the garden for a year and looks a state so I'm pretty much gonna rip it apart before the winter and wanted a live fence so a nice big hedge that will need to go for about 50 yrds. I was thinking about Leylandii but if anyone could recommend a hardy bush that will grow in pretty much any soil then all the better!

I wouldn't recommend leylandii to anyone. It needs an exceptional amount of maintenance and can quickly grow to be out of control. Also, it scorches easily in the wind and in frost and will not re-grow if overcut. Leylandii also is the cause of many neighbourly disputes. -
The reason I thought of Leylandii is because the next door isn't in for more than once or twice a week and he isn't bothered if its a fence or tree.Follow my garden and chilli growing project... @impatientgrowerComment

Privet. Not quite so fast growing maybe, but easy to cut, wonderful when it blossoms.There's no point reading history if you don't use the lessons it teaches.
