  • GYO Swing

Youngest granddaughter (aka Golden Girl Number 3):
"Nanny, you know you can grow lots of things?"
    Me:
    "Yes sweetie"
    GG:
"Could you grow me a tree please? I'd like to hang a tire on it for a swing".

You try explaining to an 8-year old that by the time the tree is big enough, she will probably have children of her own!

We have two eighty foot limes, one of which has a lorry tyre swing fashioned into a horse. My daughter now wants the real thing! Watch what it leads too...
My other half spent two hours trying to fire the end of a rope which he tied onto son's wooden crossbow (toy replica bought in France) whilst we all giggled. His stupid idea became ingenious when he finally got it over a branch forty foot up in the air. Then two giggles became an argument over who was going on first.

Tell her you are going to grow one for her daughter...

Like the Chinese saying has it - the merchant thinks only of today, the gardener thinks only of this year, but he who plants a tree thinks of posterity.
