  • Anyone in need of a hug?

Following on from yesterday's jibbering post regarding handing in my notice, I am pleased to say I have now done the deed.

My boss (soon ex) is totally understanding (how I expected/hoped he be) and sympathises with my reasons (he shares many of them). He said he'd be doing the same thing if he was in my position.

When the position was advertised they were looking for a marketing manager, but over the last 10 months it has become clear that they are not ready yet, and in fact they could get someone in with less experience, pay less and build them up. I am being wasted here, and they are not getting true value from me as an employee (my words).

I feel much better now, and can look forward to my new job (start date yet to be confirmed).

Thanks for all your messages yesterday - in hindsight I was being a wooss.

Now it's time for me to pay back some of those hugs, back slaps, hair ruffles.....

I don't need a hug at the moment but could I take an IOU , I'm sure I'll need one eventually
You weren't being a wooss, it is a horrible time but it worked out OK in the end. Now, onwards and upwards matey - good luck in your new job (not that you'll need it, I'm sure) x

Sounds like your plan worked perfectly by warning ex-boss to be yesterday so he could his act together before you saw him today.

I didn't see your message yesterday because couldn't get the internet to work, have spent the last 3 hours either on the phone or scrabbling around plugging and unplugging stuff so a hug would certainly be welcome here if there's one going spare!

I'll pass on the back slapping and hair ruffling (I'm a laydee!) but you can never have too many hugs Glad things are working out for you
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

As FF says - keep it for when we need it. It's good to have one in reserve!

I could do with a hug or maybe a pat on the back or some words of encouragement.
I'm in a quandry or maybe not in a quandry, I don't know which.
                    Here's what is happening:
I have just completed a year long Certificate Course on Psychodynamic Counselling and passed with flying colours. (Happy Bunny Hop round and round the room)
I was selected for and offered the 2 year Diploma Course, I worked out the finances of it all over and over and over and over till I could not sleep. It came to almost 5K for 1 year. Now, I work full time, have a mortgage to pay, look after an ailing Ma and her house and pay a part of her mortgage. I don't have a second salary coming into my home. Just mine.
I think that 5K is one heck of a lot of money to ask for and I have not included the fuel and wear & tear on my car for all the driving I will have to do to go to various places as a trainee counsellor.
I think every evening of mine will be taken up with just this and nothing else.
Eventually I decided that I could not do this course and asked if I could have it deferred for 1 year to give me a chance to save up.
The e-mail went out on the 8th Aug. I have yet to hear a tinsy winsy little squeak from the establishment.
Now, this makes me think I made the right decision because I feel that they don't care. ( I now feel like a cash-cow and don't anyone say I'm fat !!! Grrrr)
I know I made the right decision so why do I feel like I made the wrong decision.
I know I will find something else to do to go further with my counselling training yet I feel like I want divine intervention to send me an e-mail and tell me that I did the right thing............

So, I don't know if I need a 'there...there....', a hug or a pat on the back or what. :-)

Of course you did the right thing Shobhna - and there should be no quibble about you deferring. In my experience they always take ages to get back to you on these matters - they are busy scrabbling round trying to fill their courses for the autumn and will get back to you once they have sorted them.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Listen to Jeanied Shobhna, she is a lady who speaks with great knowledge and common sense and I second what she's said. You can have a hug if you want one, but I don't think you need it, you've done the right thing.

I'm always in need of a good hug Wayney.
Sorry I've missed out on your employment wobbles (haven't been around much lately). Hope you're feeling good today and that your new job gives you everything you need. Good luck.
