    • A warning!!!!? I hope you warned them about taking the pi$$ out of their staff. Who in their right mind is going to work unpaid overtime, on any regular basis, without some form of give-and-take!? Cheeky b*ggers. They're blimmin lucky to have you for chuff's sake!

      Sorry. I'm cross.

      • Quite why I'm cross, I don't know - it's got absolutely nothing to do with me, and I couldn't change them, if it did.

        Still cross though!

          • Restructuring and reorganisation is going on everywhere, even in the NHS (which is where I work). We are expecting to have to do this in the next 18 months and staff will have to apply for the jobs that are available. Although you've had to go through a horrible time Mrs D, you are lucky that they are taking on people from outside their organisation. Good luck with it all, I'm happy that your waiting is at an end.

            • When I was with the Civil Service, this happened all the time. It was frustrating if you were on the outside waiting to get in but when you are on the inside waiting to move up, it was pretty annoying to see posts go to outsiders, so I can see the argument from both sides. All it means is you need a bit of patience - which you must have in abundance to have put up with your current situation for so long - so will keep on with the positive vibes and let us know what happens the minute you hear anything.
All the best to both you and Lee.

              • Crikey jeebus in a boat! I thought my job situation was complicated, this wins hands down. Sounds like movement in the right direction - be interesting to see how your current employers react when you eventually break the news. Congrats*

*Full congratulations will be submitted upon successful completion of congratulatory assessment.

                • Lol Wayne, my current employers have said they dont want rid of me, they are struggling to find Store Managers (the last external 1 they took on 6 months ago has just been sacked for fraud, the one before that had a nervous breakdown after 3 months and left, yet they still think they can find managers who are prepared to do everything we do and know all about bikes, roofbars, cars, sat nav, car audio, alloy wheels, and can fit the majority of the above! Lol!) Currently in my area there are 2 branches without managers, and 2 new external managers being trained, both of whom are expected to do it all after only 3 months training!

I cant wait til I can hand in my notice, although I have had a lot of loyalty to them, the current bigwigs are taking the proverbial, our product ranges are static and other retailers are moving into our area of expertise, so things are hard, hence one of the reasons I want a new fresh start elsewhere. I know wherever I go there will be challenges, but I dont think anything can compare with trying to cover a floor single handedly, whilst fitting, doing the admin, serving every customer, being the cashier and bringing in and putting out the stock deliveries!

Running one of the Express stores will be similar to what I do now, but minus the need to be in the car park fitting bulbs/wiperblades/batteries/roofracks, and the need to be able to talk in depth about every product in the shop! Yes there will still be stress, but not to the level that we currently face

                      • Hi Guys,

Well, attended the assessment center yesterday, 4 hours long, allegedly supposed to be challenging, but I found it pretty easy, only the first task had me a bit nervous, the rest of it seemed fairly simple, although whether thats because it is what I do day in and day out, or whether because I may have missed something Im not sure! Hopefully I will find out in the next few days whether Ive got a new job or not!

Good thing is that if I get the position of Express Store Manager it will be at least on my current salary, and quite possibly will be a pay increase over what I currently get, plus more prospects and more of a chance of getting bonuses too!
                        Blessings

I hadn't, but couldn't find the post to comment/enquire how things were progressing.

Best of luck Su - it sounds as though fate is playing its hand.
