Demographic map....

Hey everyone, hope you're all well.

Total long shot, does anyone have a demographical map showing average household income for UK or East Anglia that's fairly current, say 2 or 3 years that they wouldn't mind sharing.

What you mean .....

Gross disposable household income (GDHI) of residents in the East of England has remained consistently above the UK average since 1997. At £15,900 per head in 2009, it was the third highest of the English regions and 4 per cent above the UK average. Within the region it ranged from £12,330 in Luton to £18,700 in Hertfordshire.

Lizzy, are you thinking of moving? I use this to find out house prices, crime figs etc when moving

Average wages aren't really very useful: what's more important is the actual jobs available in the town in which you live. Here, and in many coastal towns, not many. Out of my (educated) female friends, a large proportion are part time TAs, doing usually under 16 hrs a week (not by choice, that's all that's available). Those without exams are working in Tesco etc.
Many shops are closing down, so retail isn't strong at the mo (except Tesco )
Out of my male acquaintances, most have held their jobs for decades now and are doing well, but youngsters are struggling to find even apprenticeships (our nephew went for an apprentice position this year: there were 400 applicants, a lot of them older men with many years experience who can't find any other work).

I'm v.surprised to see that E.Anglia is the 3rd highest wage in the UK ~ I suspect the figures are corrupted by those commuting to London. The well-off in E.Anglia tend to be London-based, or high up in the oil & gas industry.
One friend, a senior manager for 25 yrs, was laid off 2 years ago and has been unable to find any job within 25 miles (despite lowering his sights to bin man). He's been doing odd hours for the probation service, herding hoodies around on their "community service", ie sitting in the van smoking

OH's hours have been halved, our painter decorator friend is struggling to find work, even as a labourer or window cleaner. He also DJs when he can, and his wife has 3 jobs

The decline in employment in agriculture and traditional manufacturing industries ...and limited inward investment have all had a major impact on ... Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, Wisbech ... Ipswich, Norwich and Peterborough. Consequently, these areas have higher unemployment rates than the south and east ... there are pockets of relatively high unemployment throughout East Anglia.

It's not an idyllic life here on the coast, not at all. Have a look at local job pages online to get an idea: Job Centres in Norwich - recruitmentcentreuk.com (there are loads, as you'll know). Our local freesheet fills less than one page a week with jobs. There are more ads for prostitutes than for vacancies !

You should try living round here - nobody wants us...

We feature on various different maps - sometimes, included in E.Anglia, sometimes N.Home Counties, sometimes South East, sometimes simply East, and very occasionally we're considered as South Midlands....

TV/Radio is even worser - sometimes we pick up BBC Look East, then other times it'll be BBC London.

Who says we have an identity problem?

Ever tried filling one of those online forms out where you have to select "your region". Nightmare.

Hi Guys, sorry I've been a bit distracted of late, here are the answers, nothing as exciting as moving though 2S.

FF - haven't been on here for ages cos so much has changed, the look of this place (it makes my eyes hurt still) and stuff going on in my life. I haven't actually done very much gardening for a long time but sure it will change as I'm patiently waiting for a lotty

I'm wanting an average wage map for marketing help. After being self employed for a couple of years and getting the sharp end of the stick from contractors (i.e. no notice and getting laid off as and when it suits them) I've gone back to being employed. It's a small Landscaping company, who've said they'll give me a permanent position if the work is there after my 3 months probation. Hence my request. We're looking for local Village magazines to place ads in and rather than choose random mags, I wanted to place them where money might be sitting. Although with the current economic wobbles, it probably doesn't matter.

HW, you're right about the East Anglia thing but don't take it personally, there was a time when East Anglia was just 3 counties and in my life time too. I once had a very heated discussion with my then company Director who insisted, Essex and all manor of other riff raff where part of E.A and not just Suff. Norf & Cambs. I pointed out we'd built walls to keep everyone out but he wasn't having any of it We ended up with 2 maps on the wall, his version and then mine, the correct version
(please note anyone from east anglia not covered by Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire - this is firmly tong in cheek)

Bearded bloke, that is just the sort of thing ish! I'm looking for something that says these purples areas is where they earnt an average of XXK per annum, and those green patches it was XXK, yelllow patches = XXK and so on. I did find a map with that kind of info but it was for 07/-08 and I was hoping for something more recent. Everything else is graph. I'm pretty crap with this sort of thing to be honest. I saw there was a data download but I don't know how to phrase the question to pull the correct info forward.
