    Would definitely go with Hellebore. Was going to suggest Helleborus foetidus - stinking hellebore but don't think it is that tall. At least it's never been in my garden.

      Ginge, I got bored, and had a g**gle - what you have is almost certainly Helleborus Argutifolius - a native of Corsica!

      RHS Plant Selector Helleborus argutifolius AGM / RHS Gardening

      That should give you a clue how to look after it. I have a customer with a clump of it, and she has a dry sunny garden.
