My total commuting time is three hours a day (that's a return trip) and involves a drive to the train station, walk to the station and train in. I had thought that sitting on a train would be much better than driving to work. Although I don't miss the stress of other road users, when the trains go wrong I am completely stuck at work. It is also a real pain having to wait for the next train when all you want to do is make your way home (plus you catch every bug going due to the inability of those I travel with to cover their mouths when they cough / sneeze - yuk)
I've been looking for something closer to home for ages to reduce my commute (and give me some of my life back) but not much about locally. I'm super pooped at the end of the week.
We tend to use online food shopping and I'll batch cook and freeze food so that we don't eat too late or spend the weekend doing lots and lots of chores around the house.
My last job involved a 30 mins spin around the M25 and was much more doable (plus I didn't feel half dead at the weekend)
Count myself lucky I can get to work in 15 minutes. I take the car and OH, who works in other same town, on the opposite side, cycles. However he enjoys the cycling and seems to travel by the longest route possible taking in most of West Sussex on the way.
Door to door, just under 3 hours each way ... car (because I'm not gonna walk at that time of the morning), train, tube x 2... but I love my job and the organisation I work for

I hate the amount of traffic on our roads and so many hours wasted for people sitting in cars, not to mention pollution problems etc.
I've always chosen my home to be near to my work (I rented).
Now we're homeowners though, and like everyone else we don't want to give up the home we've created so we commute. Himself drives an hour each way. We could live nearer his work, but we'd only be able to afford a one bed flat with no garden He could easily work from home at least some of the week, but his employer likes to see people "at their desk".
