I think that its not just red things but all of the "nightshade" family - so tomatoes, aubergines, chilli's etc... Cant say that they agravate my arthritis but I could never give them up! Life without Chilli! Unthinkable!

In a survey by Doctors of 1,051 patients only 5% said that eating these foods made any difference to their symptoms. On the other hand 31% said that taking Glucosamine did make a difference, 37% had a small improvement and 32% found no difference. Chondroitin had a similar result. Omega 3 fish oil (not Cod Liver) and Evening Primrose Oil showed 24% having a good improvement, 50% an improvement and 26% reported no changed. My Rheumatologist says that more work long term research is needed but he is positive about the supplements but insists that diet plays no major part in Arthritis treatment.

Glucosamine seems to work fine for my 'what once were' dodgy knees (not anymore)and spondulosis. Been taking it for about 5 years now, along with CLO and multi vits +iron.

Copious amounts of painkillers work for me about 20 minutes before I go to lotty. Once I get moving it's ok but when I stop I sieze up. Have started to take cod liver oil recently but don't know how long it would take for any effect to kick in.

I sympathise Flo. Have had back pain since my early 20's. Good days and bad days. We could probably grow something that would help but I'm no expert. Chin up

My doc. said not to take cod liver oil because of the high vitamin A&D content. He advised Omega 3 fish oil instead.

my knees are pretty beat up from training and i'm only 25! i take glucosamine sulphate and 7 grams of fish oils daily along with 2-3 grams of vitamin c powder.

other than that, i wear knee sleeves when training or when its very cold to keep my knees warm and reduce aching. good quality knee sleeves are a must. i use tommy kono knee bands. designed by tommy kono, former olympic and mr universe champ. the old style rehband knee sleeves are popular amongst strength athletes. these are around 7mm thick, but are quite pricey. both tommy kono and rehband last for years!

i just have to work aorund my injuries and to be smart when training.

as a retired physio who treated joint problems for years before developing my own i have had to modify my activities. If planting try plants rather than seeds and if necessary drop through drain pipe at a suitable length , if the bottom was shaped like a trowel at 1 side you could then use same to soil uo plant before using feet to firm in, but most joint /muscular problems benefit from keeping moving, just don't overdo. I take pain relief before setting out so I can do more, but others prefer to take after gardening ,this limits their activity so you stop when the going gets bad. Pace yourself, use others when you can and it doesn't have to be done in 1 day.

This probably wouldn't do for the allotment (you'd end up on youtube) but when I was painting the doors in my hallway, I used one of those large exercise balls, kneeling on the floor and lying over it to take the weight off my knees when doing the low down bits. This lot were all having a good laugh at me but it worked

What an ingenious Idea! my better half suffers chronic Arthritis and has had both knees replaced-so any thing requiring much bending like the above is left to me-Am off out now to buy her an Exercise ball- Wonder if Id get away with giving it to her for Christmas? LOL
