Aren't we all? DON'T ANSWER THAT ANYONE...Andrea means womanly - did you know? Feminine of Andrew (the masculine), which means manly.

Or, pay me a visit and I'll show you mine ;-)

Weeeeellll as it happens I had a play on one today. I didnt like it at all, although I accept that I only had about half an hour on it. Not really a computer not really a laptop not really anything as far as I can see. The owner loves it, I think its an IPAD2 (would that be right?) but it didnt really do anything for me. I will also accept (obviously) that I'm a complete computer nullard, and no nuffink about nuffink.

The Mac Air has come down in price since first model intro. Check out Gordon Harwood Computers or KRCS - both online. Techie specs on there. What do you want to do with your Mac and do you want a desktop or laptop - mobile or not an issue.

Download 2 programs, ccleaner and defraggler. They're both free, and small. Open ccleaner and run a clean, ticking which boxes to clean on the left hand menu [ if you want a list of the ones I tick, let me know and defninitely click on cache for firefox or IE] When it's finished that bit, go to the Tools section and click Start up. You only need a very few programs in there at start up, send me a list of whats in yours, and I'll telll you which ones you can remove. Then go to the system restore tab. Select to remove all but the latest restore point. Then go to the registry cleaner tab and do that bit.
Then open defraggler, analyse and defrag.
And run a virus check too. AVG is free.
I will confess to having to read that several times, and only got about half of it. Its not that the *computer* itself runs slowly, it just freezes sometimes, no idea why. To give you an example, from the word computer which I have put in * to the end of this, I have written it all blind, its just frozen. Then it just appears in a oner. Bizarre. And the time from the word bizarre being typed, to the time it appeared was well over a minute. Sometimes it doesnt happen, sometimes it does.

it can't process what you want it to do, it's running too many processes probably, [is it warm or overheating at all?].
the above steps [the start-up steps] will stop programs launching unless you actively click on the program to start it, which means less programs running willy nilly, which means less freezing
when most programs are installed in windows, they put themselves in the start up menu to start when you boot up, so they're kind of hovering in the background ready and waiting to spring into action when you click to start them up, rather than not starting at all, and taking a millisecond longer to load when you click to start them up.

I brought a macbook secondhand off gumtree about 4 years ago, so it would have been 5 or 6 years old and only died cos the dort knocked a glass of water over it. even then, after it dried out it worked but was a lot cranky. I love love love love love love mine. Find work terribly frustrating cos they have clunky painfully slow pcs. And the bladdy pc crashed on me, so now I have to get back into the habit of saving as I work, not a problem for macs

An Ipad isnt a proper laptop Bob.
I have a desktop iMac and a MacBook I use it to work on alot (the MacBook) although I only have a small screen which gives me a neck ache. (I would upgrade but cant afford to.) Also the battery gets quite hot after a bit. I also use a mouse aswell. However it does exactly the same as my desktop except I get to carry it about....

Have to say, and I'm a little shocked I even thought it let alone saying it out loud - I didn't like the iPad either. Neither a phone nor a laptop, more of a toy I felt, especially owning an iPhone and an MacBook.
