It's very much a show garden, the place is hoaching with visitors in the summer when royalty are not up, so I don't know how much actually veggie gardening there is done there. At a guess, most of it happens at neighbouring Birkhall estate, where Charles and Camilla stay. (I've never visited it, I'm too frightened of the SAS !
)
On Balmoral I think it is very much estate "gardening" - ie tree management in the policies - they have some very spectacular trees - and loads of grass to cut etc. I've seen the fruit area and they have enormous compost heaps I instantly just wanted to steal from, lots of well maintained bushes.
My experience of Balmoral staff is that they all seem to be of a very high standard of professionalism and good with people, I think it would be a lovely place to work if you wanted a change. The scenery is gorgeous, definite 4x4 territory i winter.
I'd love to have Sewer Rat as a near neighbour, cor, think of all that expertise just a bus ride away...!But I think he'd be coasting, frankly.
There's no point reading history if you don't use the lessons it teaches.

Wonder whether you could put the initials BRA after your name (By Royal Appointment!), or whether you'd want to?My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)
