There's always one Phil and apparently you're it. You must be very good or you wouldn't be asked

Britain needs you and only you it would seem. I ended up getting involved with Rainbows and PTAs, fund raising. The old adage springs to mind of "if you want something doing, then ask a busy person."

Phil - I know the feeling, I am guilty as charged-

Allotments, sailing club, flower show.......I must learn to say NO sometimes

Perhaps "no thank you" would be more polite as it is an honour to be asked, I do like to try to help out and do my bit whenever I can, but I never seem get any time for Mr HF and I.

HF repeats "no thank you", "no thank You",
        "no thanks",
        "thanks",
        "thank you",
"thank you- yes ok".........see that's just how it happens every time !

I always reckon life is like a glass at a party. Some of what fills it is what you naturally gravitate towards, or choose for yourself; some is down to how well you are able to avoid the c**p that other people foist upon you (and who doesn't sometimes have a lapse of attention?) and some is simply accidental - the fag ash and godawful home brew that is always lurking in wait to spoil a victim's life.
If you are lucky you might be like me, although I am a compulsive volunteer those who are most likely to appreciate my talents also know that I am periodically unable to exercise them, which is a great disincentive to asking for help that isn't really needed !
Just remember Phil, he that is ill to himself is no good to anybody - if needs be learn to say, "Can I get back to you on that ?" It's the adult equivalent of saying to your kids, "We'll see..."
There's no point reading history if you don't use the lessons it teaches.

It's one of the major tenets of my personal religion that I should never say 'someone ought to do...' because I'm someone! Roll your sleeves up gel!
