Signal Crayfish

Always loved shellfish so I fancied catching some of my own.

Contacted the Fisheries Laboratory (01480 483 849) and got their free crayfish information pack sent.
It arrived and contained all the documents needed.
Purchased a crayfish trap for £5 on ebay and waited for my licence.
It passed in 3 days and now my trap is tagged and in the Thames waiting for crayfish.

Sounds facinating! I go flyfishing when I get the chance (seldom) but never thought about crayfish. Are you allowed to catch the English native species or do you have to limit yourself to the american (?) invader?

Only allowed to catch non-native species which mainly consists of big American or Signal Crayfish...

The information pack they send contains a laminated illustrated crayfish guide which is very useful
