BBC News - Leek and potato soil linked to E. coli outbreak

    Interesting article.

Yeah, tells us what most folk know, bacteria get around in the soil!
They quietly ignore the fact that if ALL strains of E.Coli were eliminted, the planet would be in big trouble. They are necessary in the gut of most mammals (and probably a lot of other species) breaking down the last stages of digested food, to prepare it for becoming 'manure'.....
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

Better start washing all the veg in nice man made chemicals then. Wont be a dirty spud in any supermarket before you know it and then they'll start charging more because of the extra processing required to bleach them.

Now here's a interesting notion - WASH THE MUD OFF and then cook and eat the produce .

if there wasn't such a paranoia about cleanliness we'd be a lot more resistant to these bugs anyways but Reetnproper has hit it on the head. Cooking kills the bugs and who eats raw leeks and potatoes anyway?

I wonder how soon they are going to ban foods that contain substances which sensitivities are common? Could be tricky, wheat and other gluten sources are fundamental, milk and its products are a major nutrient source for a lot of people.
                      How about this one:
If allergic/sensitive to something, learn which ingredients contain it, and read the ingredient list.
Manufacturers, if you are making food that isn't meant to contain nuts, or wheat, or.... just make sure it DOESN'T! Don't switch production lines between (for instance) wheat-containing and wheat-free products, and take proper precautions against cross-contamination!

Makes me laugh, stuff like this:

sadly the world we live in is moving to a world in which no one has personal responsibility for themselves and that we can all sue and pass the buck onto someone else when we ourselves are at fault.

there should be plenty of cheap leek and potato soup about soon then - result
There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore and who always will. Don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it in your future.
