Has anyone been ? I've been having a goggle and it looks rather nice. I'm thinking Sept next year for our 25th . It was going to be Kenya but with whats been happening in that neck of the woods it's kinda put me off somewhat.

Now if it were Gin, you'd be wrong to say yes, the evil Gin does would be hard to assess.........................Come on Binley, you stared this with your subject line!!

Seriously, though, its been some time since we were in Maderia. It has a wonderful benign climate all year around. You need strong legs as all roads ure steeply uphill or steeply downhill. There is some great walking to be had along the Laverdas, these are small irrigation canals running from the highest mountains all over the island. Food, especially seafood is first class as are the wines incluing of course the Maderia itself. On the downside, if you are a beach person, there are no beaches to speak of.

No doubt some other members can add to this.

.........until the next morning she woke up in bed, with a smile on her lips and an ache in her head - And a beard in her earhole that tickled and said...Have some Maderia m'dear ! .........

We've been three times in January (different years!), but, like A-A not for a long time. Wonderful walking. Borrow a walking book (we used Sunflower books) and read up first before you decide It'll give you a good idea of the terrain, flowers and landscape. Fantastic tropical gardens to visit - orchids, estrelizia (spellng), markets, fresh fruit and fish. No beaches but all the hotels have pools if you need to get wet. Local bus service was good. People very friendly. and as for the Madeira - plenty of tasting opportunities!

Egypt for snorkeling. Great country or Israel. I love Venice although smelly in Summer, perfect in October/November. Corsica is beautiful as is Sicily. You don't want romantic Paris - can recommend a great country chateau. Principal Hayley hotel - google the name.
