Gotta be Guiness (as many as you can handle) and a good run helps.

Snap! What is it about a lot of books all in 1 place. Happens to me in Waterstones as well!

Yes, of course! Is that why it's called 'the runs' ?

Honey is good for sorting the problem for babies - dip the dummy in a couple of times - about a teaspoonful

            Follow on question!

OK everyone - a follow on question - if libraries and book shops cause so much, um, er, "activity" in this department - how many people read a book in their bathroom, or have a permanent pile of "reading material" in their bathrooms?

I for one, OK, I admit it, do occasionally take a book into the bathroom with me - for when I'm having a BATH!
I have a couple of married friends, and in their bathroom, you can't get to their loo for the pile of books!

            What about everyone else?

LOL - you need mountaineering equipment to get past the stack of books in our bathroom!! Elder son doesn't (as far as I am aware) but younger son takes a book every time - however, they never go back out again till I throw a wobbler! There is usually a selection of reading material in there for anyone who wishes to partake.

Going back to the original question - can't read in the bath as I don't have one and reading material gets all soggy in the shower, as for reading in the lavatory, I'm a guy, how else do you pass the time ..........

As someone who works in the book industry I find this link between books and bowels rather worrying...
Can you tell me what the connection is???? Am surrounded by thousands of books and it has no effect on my inner workings!

We don't keep books in the bathroom (or toilet), but if I think I 'may be some time' I take a copy of Private Eye with me....

Sue - libraries and book shops have always had this effect on me, in fact I only visit shops that have cafes/loos instore!

Can't explain it, it just happens every time.

Erm... didn't think babies (under 12 months) were supposed to have honey, due to a bacteria or something. I'm sure it's printed on the labels of the mass produced stuff anyway.

                          Well

I always gave my babies and my grandkids a couple of grains of brown sugar in water that always did the trick.

Maybe it's something to do with the smell of old books. I love it. They should bottle it.

I can often be found sniffing old books... I've said too much!
