Snap mate except my dad spread it over the bed and I didn't have to sneak . My kids used to get the same treat with my sheepskin Jacket especially if they were ill.

Oooh I remember the stripey sheets, they were lovely. Nylon fitted sheets were another mater, horrid things. As a kid we had sheets and blankets, then eiderdowns. Ice on the inside of the windows in the winter brrrrr. Leccy blanket at my nans though

As kids,We had an old brick heated in the rayburn then wrapped in a towel as a hot water bottle, cant remember feeling cold once in bed !
Certainly remember the ice patterns on the inside of the bedroom windows though! Happy days.

We had cotton sheets for summer and flannelette for winter. Those brushed nylon ones appeared, but they were scarey. After mum got a few electric shocks they vanished.
Nowadays I buy egyptian cotton ones in the sales. They get ironed, because there is something truely wonderful about sliding into a freshly made, clean bed, after a lovely hot bath.
Topping is a quilt with cover, no top sheet. We have light, middle and heavy weight ones according to the time of year. Oh and a big heavy bedspread for winter.
Luckily I have one of those big Phillips semi-commercial top loaders. It will cheerfully wash double quilts (or horse rugs)

Hahaha... this is like listening to my mum tell us how we don't know we're born nowadays!!

My nan used to have a funny bed cover: candlewick? or something like that - I liked it because it was nice and soft.


I hate changing beds, always have done. I worked at a holiday camp when I was 13, as a chambermaid. We never washed the bed linen, just took it off, shook out the debris and put it all back on again. I always had terrible "hayfever" (the dust) and didn't stay long

When I was having my babies, they had draw sheets on the hospital beds. Stiff white linen sheets, a half rubber sheet and then a half sheet on the mattress. Very uncomfortable.

I still have an old Candlewick blanket in the cupboard. So thin it's almost see-through now, but a useful extra layer at times.
