I know first hand how traumatic such an experience is as my father had a heart attack at my house the Christmas holiday before last, the day after my 30th birthday whilst sitting on the toilet. Similarly if it wasn't for the quick actions & treatment of the first responders he wouldn't still be with us. Remember that you need to look after yourself too as its easy to forget when worrying about others. xx

This is incredibly common as needing to move your bowels is often a symptom of heart failure. If you feel incredibly tired, clammy, sweaty, with or without pain or tingling in your neck and jaw or chest then you feel the need to use the loo at an unusual time for you ring 999. you may look an idiot. it may save your life. cpr even done wrong within 4 mins is a life saver and does prevent permanent damage. Well done your mum. Positive thoughts from here xxx

Hi Everyone, Thank you so much for all your kind thoughts. I have read them all to my husband and they made us both a bit tearful, in a good way, of course.

My mum actually didnt have to give CPR as the paramedics was already running up the stairs as mum got him on his back on the floor.

He finally managed to safely come off sedation Thurday but was still on loads of tranquilsers to keep him calm. Yesterday morning he was sitting in a chair and talking, it was amazing! Today he even has a small walk in ICU with the physiotherapist.

My dad has suffered a small amount of brain damaged as his brain was starved of oxygen when his heart stopped. So seeing dad with slurred speech, memory loss and talking about things from years ago, along with his very slow movement and struggling to hold cutlery and feed himself is hard to come to terms with. But he is alive and these symptom will/hope fade to make a full recovery.

Its going to be a long road but my dad is alive and as my sister rightly put it, a week ago if they offered us our dad with all these problems he has today instead of how he was a week ago, we would have taken it and run!

Cant believe a week has passed already.

He is still in ICU but only as they dont have a bed in cardiology and they have diarrhea down there.

He will be better on a ward when he goes as it will be alot calmer than where he is now. Dad still thinks he is going home soon even though he has been told he is going to a ward, bless him.
