In our school garden we had managed to grow 4 good sized pumpkins, which we intended to raffle for charity. Unfortunately I wasn't in on Friday, so the pumpkins were left in the garden, rather than being put into the greenhouse. Over the weekend vandals came into the school, sprayed foam stuff over some of the windows, smashed up the pumpkins and pulled up some of the kale and sprouts. They didn't take anything away, just destruction.

Vandals smash school pumpkins!
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

Mindless morons. So sorry to hear that SR, what a disappointment. You must be very angry and sad at the same time.Last edited by Florence Fennel; 17-10-2011, 08:08 PM.Granny on the Game in Sheffield

We Frequently have this kind of problem on our site, So I can emphasise to a degree, but to do this at a school where the children are affected is beyond the pall.
As sugested, do report it if you havent already- Our local PCSO is very supportive and makes sure the local bobbies keep an eye ouit on their rounds. They did catch one group recently and are pursuing charges ahainst one youngster, Hope this acts as a deterrent to some of the others. I can at least begin to understand some of the petty thieving, but its this kind of mindless vandalism that really makes me mad.
Best of luck with the project though and hope the kids arent to diheartened by it all"... discipline is what the world needs today and etiquette, you know. For one of the noblest things a man can do is to do the best he can, yeah ..."

The school reported it, but they didn't catch anything on the cctv, and as there was no 'actual damage', i.e. windows broken etc, I don't think the police will be that bothered with investigating. There has been a plea go out to everyone to listen in to convesations in case anything goes around, but I don't hold out much hope.I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

what a shame for you and the kids - do you think the kids MAY know (or hear about) who did it if they are local?

Criminal damage is criminal damage. Should it matter whether it is a pumpkin or a window? They shouldn't be left to get away with it - for their own sakes too!
I have a big pumpkin here that you can gladly have for your raffle if anyone is in the area......bit far for me to deliver. Some local grapes could help. Home grown ones are much more interesting than the supermarket clones.
Loving my allotment!

This sort of thing makes me so angry. First thoughts - I wish them many horrid things in their nasty life - second thoughts, that may have a knock on effect and upset others related to the mindless idiots that did this.
I wish I could inflict the Christmas Carol story on the nasty people of the world (i'd be busy) that way they would see themselves for what they are and alter their nasty little ways. Then I woke up and I have no magic powers.....I'm a dreamer I guess
Love and hugs to all of you at the school. Wish I was closer I would donate a pumpkin.
