Just had to share this with you. I spent ages (and I do mean ages) on a PC game last night, looking for a "Bobby Pin". I didn't know what one looked like and eventually I gave in and pressed the hint. It's a bloomin' hair grip. Only in America.

I've also had to explain to my granddaughter that when it asks for a fawcett, you're actually looking for a tap.

I remember playing Pictionary with some American friends several years ago,there was just me and one other English girl and it was our turn to guess a word...should have been so simple(and kind of was)...our team drawer was getting so impatient with us and the other team couldn't believe how stupid we were that we couldn't see it was a teeter totter.

Some of us play a hidden object game and certainly scratched our heads over finding the mistletoe which was in fact a bunch of holly, the tick mark that was called a check and I am constantly mistaking the dart in the dart board for an arrow!

Oh, right...a see-saw. Thought you meant a Tater Totter for a minute there. I'm okay with Americanisms, mainly because I grew up with them on various military bases, but the ones in recipes tend to throw me. Baking soda...always have to think about whether it means baking powder or bicarbonate of soda. There are a few that I always double check before reaching into the cupboard.

But if you're in the UK it's a tap, a pacifier is a dummy, your mom is your mum, a tire is a tyre, color is colour etc etc and the word awesome should NEVER be used
