That is disgusting. I'd be straight down to the school to complain!

      Methinks the "teacher" needs "educating"
He who smiles in the face of adversity, has already decided who to blame

this just awful - poor little grandchild. Must say something to school, a shocking bad decision by the teacher and not the way to start a new job. Very poor show.

Update: Daughter did complain to the teacher in a dignified way (unlike the other three mums who apparently had such a go at her that she cried). School rang daughter and apologised, they will provide pumpkins today. Baldrick was right when he said that there are many parents who can't be bothered and there are quite a few of these at my granddaughter's school.
This is an experience that this young woman new to teaching will never forget!

Unfortunately neither will your grandaughter or the other children in the same situation who have undoubtedly been upset if not traumatised by what has happened.

                Still- it's disgraceful.
I'd take the receipt in to the teacher and ask for a refund- bet that'd make her think twice next time. It's a sort of theft really isn't it?????

I have no sympathy for this teacher. Her idiotic actions inflicted the resultant rows upon herself, whereas a little thought would have prevented it. Most children will share when asked by their teachers. I have to ask myself what sort of p.c. tosh they're being taught at teacher training these days.

We have been completely broke at times, and not much better off now (with a £44 theatre trip looming for #3 son for AS Level English) but a pumpkin isn't that expensive surely? They're only £1 in Lidl for a culinary pumpkin just now. My heart goes out to the genuine parents who just cannot squeeze anything spare from all ready tightly squeezed budgets, but those lazy ones....hmmph....!!

Flo, you're quite right, she will not and should not forget this very valuable lesson. Silly girl.

it isn't a sort of theft, it is a theft. Imagine if she was going on a school trip, paid for it, then was told a few hadn't paid, so all the tickets were going into a hat to see who was going and she ended up not going.

It is a world gone mad, but has been like it for a long time.

similar happened to me when I was in secondary school 14 years ago ( wow that long ) they selected who got to do Drama GCSE from choosing names out of a hat, even though I was one of the only one's that had been in every school play, I did not get to do it..

they think that this kind of thing is good for "sharing" and equal opportunities and all, but they never considerer what effect it has on the child who did everything right "had a pumpkin in this case" and was left disadvantaged even so.

I mean I could have been a famous actor by now lmao!

I think you've got that in one Bins. I was so cross I forgot to tell you something. As daughter was telling me what had happened yesterday, granddaughter came to where I was sitting, leaned on me and handed me a green paper towel. "I couldn't carve a pumpkin Nanny, but I managed to get these for you". I opened the green towel to find loads of pumpkin seeds. Brought a tear to my eye I can tell you.

bless her. I would be so proud i could burst! Id also be the same about my daughters dignified complaint in contrast to parents making the teacher cry. I would never show the most idiot teacher a blatent lack of respect in front of the children. Shocking message. At least your grandchild has learned 1. life is not always fair 2. adults and authority figures are not always right 3.polite persistant argument often wins. Their kids have learned 1. the teacher is an idiot 2. I will leave you with her anyway 3. if you are confrontational you get your own way....... It was only a pumpkin :-(
