  • Yikes!!

I've just had a call from the Fraud Team of my credit card - seems I've been 'compromised' to the tune of £200!!

This £200 was taken (or rather attempted to be taken) in two small bits then one larger - each time they (my card company) refused them. How odd is that? Why would they not think it was me?

But whatever - I am very grateful for their vigilance even though I am currently credit card-less until the new one arrives.

How do these people get your details? I really don't understand how it works!

I've been 'got' before - their fraud teams are very very good - I can't praise them highly enough. Blimmin annoying though...

We've been cloned twice before and credit card company are always very good about it. Even to the extent they text my husband to check if an unusual transaction is valid and it's been me internet shopping!

I hope they didn't ask you to confirm that you still had the credit card in your possession and if so, to give them the 3 digits on the back of the card to confirm it. This is a current scam where the caller pretends to be from the Fraud dept of Mastercard/Visa and can tell you every detail on your card, your name, account number etc - the only info they're missing is the security code from the reverse. Never tell them that as the instant you do a payment is charged to your account, often for just under £500.

Good grief!!!! That would never had occurred to me!!

They did ask me if my card was in my possession - they didn't ask me the last three, they just told me to shred the card

You should be OK then. Apparently the fraudsters ask if you have made a purchase from some obscure company, you say NO. They say that they are watching this company and will refund you the purchase money. Then they ask you to confirm the 3 digit security code so that they can authorise the refund. They also say that if you have any questions you should contact the telephone number of the back of your credit card and ask for Mr...... in Security. Its clever because they tell you the details on your card, you only have to answer yes or no. The credit card companies say that they would never ask for any of your card details because they already know them.
              Be very careful out there!

This happened to me a couple of years ago when someone tried to spend over ninety quid on Dominos Pizza of all things! I don't ever buy Domino Pizza and I'm glad the credit card company spotted it!
